i've seen guys make nitro pipe heat sink out of either copper or brass tubing. what material is used and how does one go about bending it around the pipe. how do you keep from kinking it? Its a standard 40 OPS pipe.

your doing good young grasshopper

just use metal sheet that can be bent easily around the pipe. Cut to size and then wrap it.

woops. thought you were talking about the coupler burning.

K&B Tubing (the brand that the LHS carries) makes a 1/8" soft brass tube that bends easily. Or you can heat the standard tube til it's really hot (????), let it cool and then you can bend it easily.

You can use the soft brass tubing that Preston refers to (I think our LHS carries K&S). I ususally take a piece of weedeater cord and slide into the tubing before making bends. The weedeater cord will allow the tubing to bend around a fairly tight radius without "kinking". Once you have made your bends simply pull the weedeater cord out...

(cough, cough) excuse me

ummm, right,............................ K&S

Yeh, that's what I meant.

K&S Tubing, Slide a peice of solid wire ( electrical wire) and warm it and it will wrap right around your pipe.

You can eather use nylon ties, or hose clamp to secure it on there.

Was just at the LHS and forgot all about tubing, damn getting old really sucks

Thanks guys just have to make anouther trip

PS Preston in your picture with your crapshooter you've got a muffler on the rear of your pipe who/where did you get it from. my son's OPS 40 is a little loud and we would like to quite it down a little

Nitronewbie,

Send Mike Tyson a PM hes on this board and he makes awesome mufflers for all kinds and sizes of boats.

Hes super to deal with, and the mufflers really dont take any power away.

Brass or cooper are good but for an efficient heat dissipation aluminium soft tubes are the best choice and bend very easily.. I use to find them at metal supliers as aluminium tube used in our refrigerators.
