What defines a stock outboard class. Is it stock out of the box or is it no modification or pipe? as the K&B 45 pro is stock out of the box with a larger carby and a pipe. This is a grey area can someone help.

Thanks

Damien,

Namba defines "stock" as out of the box stock. No modifying of any kind, no pipe except for the muffler that may come with a certain series of engine. You are allowed to dis-assemble the engine for cleaning, as some engines do have

metal dust from tapping the screw threads that holds the back plate and in some engines the front snout (plate). Flushing the two front bearings, as well as the two PTO shaft bearings in the back plate is my advise. On the lower unit, you are allowed to sharpen the skeg (rudder) only.

Hope this helps, Jack.

Hi Jack!

So If you had people running the old stock watercooled 7.5 K&B motors up with the new Pro 45 air cooled motors with a bigger carby and muffler, both of wich is stock out of the box. If these would be running together at a race meet would they both be under the stock rule? It's just that I have a watercooled motor but If I'm to be compettive I may need to buy one of the new motors.

Thanks

Ok, so first we have to know, will you be racing under NAMBA, APBA or IMPBA rules. Basically, NAMBA and APBA are the same. And as Bzubee mention, IMPBA is not as strict. I am not familiar with the IMPBA rules. Not that I don't agree with them.

To answer your question, you CAN be competitive with the older engine. It's not all engine that wins races. Your boat and engine set up, prop, your driving skills and yes, luck can win for you. BTW, where are you located?

IMPBA only has a "stock" class for 21 size tunnels. NAMBA has one for all the sizes. Impba "Sport 21" is about as stock as Nascar. I wish it was a stock class for beginners.

BOB ; If I recall impba had a stock 21 class and when you was the outboard director it was change to sport 21.

Hi Jack.

I live on the Gold Coast in Australia and under the AMPBA. I found out that here in Oz we still carry the rule of "stock out of the box" this just means for me that If I wanted to use the New Pro 45 air cooled motor out of the box i will be running as stock, and if i wanted to use the old water cooled motor this may not be as quick but would be fine to modify and run in the Mod class. Thanks for all the info evey one.

Regards

Damo B)
