What is it and how should I rig it?

Hi guys, new to the forum here. I am from Wichita, Kansas, the land of choppy water.

I bought this hull and engine a few years back but never had a chance to build it. Always done RC planes and would like to get into boats. Anyway, engine is a brand new O.S. Max .21 RG and I don't know what the hull is. Do you guys know anything about it? Also how should I rig it? Surface drive? What are your suggestions?

Thanks,

Justin

looks like an ole boat, Would have to be Subsurface drive. Looks like you have a Bailer in the hole that would be the strut location on a newier boat hull. www.Rossisales.com can sell youm the hardware for the boat.

looks like it had an outboard on it , the bottom also appears to have a pad type bottom. i know this dose not answer your question, just an observation! good luck with the build.

Thanks Joe,

Now that I think of it the boat probably is pretty old, it was probably about 2000 when I bought it... Whats your thoughts on the age of the hull? I am also thinking the boat was rigged as an outboard at one time because of the lack of engine rails and pattern on the transom. I was also thinking they may have plugged the original drive hole with the bailer, is that possible?

Put a set of 1/8 engine rails and lightweight mount , Rossi 21 or Top 21 and fly it on the pad like an Allison . Have fun .

I would run it as surface drive so that it runs on the pad, like Tom says. If the prop is submerged, it can lift the hull completely out of the water, which you do not want.

How long and wide is it ?

I'm thinking stay outboard and run it in Mod VP

The hull is 29" in length and 9 3/8" wide.

Do I understand this right; subsurface could lift the boat out of the water and a surface drive will let it run on the pad? << Newbie alert

I saw the hardware on rossisales.com, looks like some nice stuff but how do I know what to pick? Do I go with a stinger or strut type? I know I have a lot of parts to gather up.

Is there a rule of thumb or equation or something that determines where the balance point is for this type of hull or is it just a guessing game?

Sorry for all the questions and thank you all for the advise!

Hey guys, I would like to resurrect this thread if I can, finally getting back to where I can play with my toys...

Anyway, I would like to go with a surface drive but I don't know what an appropriate length would be. I have read anywhere from 5 to 13% of the boat length and I am not sure what to do. Also would like your opinions on rudder length and position, I guess the rule of thumb is to have the leading edge of the rudder aligned with the drive dog?

What do you guys recommend?

Thanks in advance!
