I think you should expect nothing in return,,, except the company of a group of people that share the same interest as you,,, a place to run your boats with out worrying where to run/test and not having to worry about being run off the propery.

What the club should expect from you, is the dedication to bust your butt!!! with help keeping your club lake clean, well maintained and the commitment to pitch in when race weekend comes to your town with retieve boat ops, pit bossing, EXTRA EYES in the tower to help your CD make the calls that need to be made,,

I guess what I'm asking is should certain basics be expected. Your chance to vote on issues involving the club (purchasing items, formats, goals for the club) Realizing the votes may not go your way, but a chance to vote non the less. Timely informing of events( not 7pm the night before). The club should mean equality among the members, right?

I presently belong to 2 model airplane clubs and 2 boat clubs. Have been everything from a member to president of all of them and for the most part Rick is exactly right.

Well,,,, Yes & no?!?! As far as equility of members,,, It's a "tight rope" to walk But if you one of the members that seems to always have an excuse to NOT show up for pond clean up,,, or seems to only have time to work on there boats and socialize come race weekend,, you can't expect to have the same "pull" as someone that is always there for the work/race days,,,

But yes,,, if yer taking crap for not showing up for a work day, that was anounced at 7PM last night Your club officers should do a better job of planning the work and getting the word out in a timely manner.

One thing I can say, is if your not happy with the direction of your club,,, put your name in the hat to become a club officer and make a positive change for ALL.

And yes,, club decisions should be a "club" decision

there you go some straight up answers.

too many join just to have a place to run a boat but don't want any of the baggage that comes with it.

the baggage is what makes a good club.

step up to the plate, if change is needed.

timely notification is a must.

get involved , it all helps out in the end

Yes there are alot of good clubs out there that will help you and there are clubs that have a few bad apples which makes it sad

It's not just about the membership money like the guys above have said. We've tried several times to get a club going in my neck of the woods but it's just a few that want to invest in the time to organize everything and get the work done. Some just want a place to run that's sanctioned or someone to run with and not do any work. I've seen this from the smallest to the largest clubs. I joined a club just to help out at an Internat's. I worked my butt off at that event, 12-hour days at the pond. Long-time members showed up when they felt like it, after they got off from work or came and went when they felt like it. One's wife had a medical emergency so of course that was excusable. It takes a lot of dedication, more than just a wallet to be in a club. If they host races then it's a lot more work that can be year-round in prepping for one.

Your club dues may just cover the basics, a retrieve boat, buoys, PA system, clock and other things. Ask where the money goes if you have any questions. You might be surprised what some members buy themselves and donate to the club.

Your club dues pay for an experience of a lifetime- and what YOU make of it - period.

Like every person here that has already spoken, you get what you put back , plain and simple.

Personally I am not a dues paying member of any club!! As an Honorary Life Member of the Atlanta Model Boaters when I attend their events My Wife and I assist all we can and everything is good!!! You just need to be associated and help out I reckon if you supported the local club it would be a worthy cause, but Hey I live in Florida and not quite equal to their type of competition?? If ya know what I mean??? What's important no matter how far you travel "Have Fun"!!!!

Later!!
