On wood boats , I west systems the wood, sand it to 2000 grit , rubbing compond to finish, then cut out vinyl to fit your design, wet surface with light soapy water , apply vinyl and squeege the water out from under the vinyl. I use the vinyl that already has the sticky on the back side. if you ever want to redo it or repair a crash. just heat gun the vinyl and peel it off, alcohol will get the glue off. geno :)

On my scales boats I clear over the vinyl..First I clean them off and then I lightly fog them with clear and let the clear set thel put on a light coat and let it set..Then I can do a heaver coats ..The foging and the light coats protect the vinyl so the clear won't damage to vinyl

DITTO!!! :D

I like to wet sand the vinyl after the graphics have been applied. This feathers the edges so when I put the clear on, there is less of a ridge. Sometimes I sand the clear and shoot another coat. This will take out all the vinyl bump and leave a very nice surface that is smooth to the touch too.

Garry,

Ever have your hatch tape rip the clear right of the graphics? I've done this too myself a few times with the Avery decal paper trick. That's a bummer.

I forget that the fuel fellas don't have to seal their boats like us FE nerds.

With my experience with vinyl graphics, most of the solid colors are fuelproof. The Metalfalke and Prizm type ones aren't. If you decide to clearcoat them, make sure that you don't change your mind later or if you decide to repaint the boat, then they're a bear to get off.

The vinyl stays put, but we’ve seen water-slide decals come up from under Krylon Clear-coat. With the vinyl, I think it helps to wet sand to clean and “tooth” the surface for good adhesion.

Ummm, you should see what nitro does to an inked vinyl transfer............

Single layer/color vinyls aren't quite an issue & high nitro (over 60%) can attack the adhesive of said graphics but to get those cool multi-colors without the thickness of stacked vinyl, inks are a must & therefore, so is clearcoating. ;)

With nitro we have to seal everything, ESPECIALLY if it's wood.

We seal wood too but I'm never sure why. My boats never hold up long enough to rot. I'm too hard on them.

I meant the entire engine compartment. That sucker has to closed up like a coffin or something nasty can happen.

A friend demonstrated a quick & easy way to remove vinyl graphics,

just stuff the boat at top speed.

Most of the ( $70) stickers will be gone.
