In the first video of the 1/8 scales, is there a reason the boat (that looked to me like the red and gold Bud) that was stopped in the first turn didn't keep going after it hooked? I would think there would be nothing to stall from this kinda incident.

That was an unfortunate incident. The Bud was my hull, it didn't hook, I made contact with a dead boat and suffered sponson damage as well as folding the prop up. You can't tell from the video, but that end of the lake was heavily shaded as the fall sun cast a dark shadow over the water from the surrounding trees.

On the previous lap Dennis Whitts Slo-Mo (mahogany planked boat...very dark) had flipped about lane 3-4 off the "point bouy" that was used to mark a course for the 1/8th's to run around (we were running an 1/8th mile course for the other classes and wanted a longer course for the scales).

Unfortunately, the boat had been called dead (you can hear that on the video), just not where, and the dark coloured boat was practically invisible out there in the shadows. My pitman did not see it, neither did I...I felt sick...Dennis' boat is a beauty (he did not sustain much if any damage).

We were both ready for the next heat.

Looks a bit short to me, but then I'm used to the 1/6th mile course. Actually, it looks close to an 1/8th mile oval....those big boats give the illusion of a smaller course.

.

For the 1/8th scale we ran one bouy far out from the 1/8mi course...sot of in between a 1/6th and 18th mi course. I don't remember which heat Jim posted but one heat 2 racers forgot about the far buoy and ran the standard 1/8th course for a lap.

That makes sense! Thank you for your reply.

Thats Ok Steve. That was a tuff turn for an 8th scale anyways.Just a chip off of the side planking. The boat really needs to be replanked.Shes starting to leek everywhere. The outside sponson keeps filling up with water but I cant run down the problem.By the time the boat was brought in by the pick up boat the sponson was empty.I was scaratching my head all weekend trying ti figure out why she kept flipping to the outside and then once my buddy Paul picked up the boat to throw it back in I saw water dripping off his hand.Thought I had it figured out.But ended up scaretching the last heat.Every time I ran her I would spend right up to the last minute drying it back out. Thanks for waiting on me on more than one accasion though.I really love racing that old Newton boat. She is so majestic on the water.Time to send her back to her owner. After I find that Dang crack !!On her good days she is smokin hot on the water.
