Don, yes it is hydrilla. Makes for great bass fishing, but lousy boat running when it gets all the way to the top.

Do you have any Southern States supply houses nearby?? Copper Sulphate is what you want, kills that crap big time! It's granular in typical 50 lb. bags. Hydrilla grows from shoreline out so your best bet is to apply close to shore. Wear a one of those paper cup type masks like they recommend when you spread fertilizers. We just made a scoop from old fuel jugs & flung it over the hydrilla in an arc. It's dying off now because of the cold but if you get a jump on it in EARLY spring you can quickly get it under control.

Cool, thanks Don! I will pass this info to the owner of the pond...he has taken on the task of getting rid of the stuff by himself.

You might have to do two applications. Do first one at the very first sign of growth, typically early March to April depending on climate. Being in Ga. I'd say March. Follow up with second spot treatments in May or June. The copper sulphate will run about $50 per bag but it is the only stuff we found that will effectively control the hydrilla. The worst part is that hydrilla in not indegenous to the U.S., it's another one of those lovely Asian imports like fruit flies, Japanese beetles, the Asian flu ............. :unsure:
