... who is responsible for putting a car fax together ?....can a car fax be trusted to be true ?...thanks....bob

Any thing to do with the title and dealership will beon a car fax... go to the web site they should have a example ..

IF it has been reported under a factory warranty claim, factory recall, an insurance company claim, or a dmv (as in totaled/salvaged) it will be on a carfax report. any issues not dealt with by those channels will not show up. good source of accurate info, but not always complete history.

yes sir,,, only shows up if its filed.... you can have a vehicle that was smashed,,, if it was never reported,,,then its not on car fax.... ive seen time and time again people beleive this car fax crap..........ive personally seen several vehicles that were bought and the radiator supports were bent to hell,, obviously a good hit,,, it may look good,,, but its only plastic,,metal ,,and paint,, and can be made to look nice even though the structure has been whacked......car fax is useless in my opinion...no claim,,,no car fax...............

I agree, Ive seen lots of new cars destroyed by the owner not in an accident. Just try to learn as much about the car as you can.If its a Ford you can get a lifetime warranty report spelling out any repeated concerns or issues.

I just bought a used 2011 Mustang GT, all the carfax showed was an oil change. The day after I got it I read online about them having clutch issues and mine went out that day. After it sat in the shop for a month waiting on the parts to come from Europe, the dealership told me the clutch and tranny had already been changed in the car before I got it. I will never trust another carfax.

Not sure I could trust ford anymore for that matter either!!!!

how old is this car? a 2011 used, can't be that old, agewise. to have been built, shipped, sold, had an issue with the clutch, & then traded or sold back, bought by you, & have another clutch issue. doesn't leave a bunch of time for the original warranty claim to be entered by the dealer, processed by the factory, claim paid paid to dealership - all before the cliam can be closed & available to carfax. then carfax has to get the info, verify it, then add it to their report. how did you learn of the clutch repair? what was the date the original repair was done. 2 dates to look at. the original repair order date, & the date it was returned to the customer. the return date is when the ball starts rolling on the warranty paperwork, until then it is just a piece of paper at the dealership. a carfax is not an end all - be all source of info, just one more tool for the consumer to use. just like reading online about the clutch issue & learning that the car had already had those issues.........

If a car is used and it is same year that it is made and for sale something is wrong, i am sure the dealership knew it dont blame Ford blame the guy that sold it to you. Robert Pickard

I found out about the previous issues after hounding the dealership about why it was taking so long to get the parts. Its funny how parts can pretty much be sent overnight from China, but to get them from Germany takes 2 months. They sent me a new clutch and flywheel and after talking to the Ford customer support I'm not sure these parts are proven. They claim these will fix the problems people are having but they are also still putting the old parts in the cars coming off the production line. Interesting to say the least. At first they acted like it was all my fault and that they didn't have a problem with their parts until I brought up the government investigating them.

Best bet is to find a car that the dealer originally sold as new and did all the maintainence with low miles. Will stuff still be missing on the report? Maybe. But the dealer can show you all the early warranty stuff that was done to the vehicle. Sometimes even the "loaner vehicles are good too. Preferrably something built on a Wednesday, not near a Holiday and no major history of early failures of the model year. AND built at a plant that has not had workers on the national news getting high and drinking on break time. :)
