"I also set it up with CMD remote needles,I hope it works better

than what you are saying DON.This pair of needles were VERY

close in synch according to the flow meter, and the one that

richened up a little more than the other one was installed on

the right motor, hopefully that will help."

Hey Mitch, how ya been?? Nice to see you're still out there tearin' up the ponds! :D I hope you have better luck with your set up than those I've seen struggle with twin remotes. I have yet to see one that worked out correctly. The CMD remote needles are rather good needles though... B)

" Oh ya, I forgot my boat has a glass cowl that adds about 3/4 lb than the stock cowl."

The stock cowling for the SGX twin is glass .........

Mitch, thanks for the kind words. That is the boat that went 106.8 at a record trial over a year and a half ago.

The Eagle SG twin is no doubt one of the fastest heat racing boats ever built. That being said, the very first version like the one I have is not as happy in rough water as a boat like the roadrunner twin. Andy and I have spoken many times about the very narrrow track of the SG twin at the rear sponsons. We are going to make some changes to the front of the boat and leave the rear alone for now. The SGX twin is a better rough water boat than my SG.

I was very impressed with the number of great running twins in Brandon....yours included. I look forward to racing with you guys again soon. Thanks for having such a fun event!

I almost forgot..........Don and others, thanks for the feedback on my earlier post. I thought I was going to catch heck for that one......I was happy to see folks that agree.

Weight of my twins are between 13 and 14lbs. with .80 motors. Over 14lbs. with .90's. You can not get the weight down much more that this. I have been scratch builting F class twins for the past 10 years. Third channel needles, been there done that it just does not work period. Flow meters work ok to get in the ball park but the only way to tune them right is to have the ear. My partner Doc Turner and I can tune our twins on the bank and in most cases they will be together. Eric is right rich is good in a twin because each motor helps the other and if you have the motors set as if you where running them in a single engine boat they will run out of fuel at the top end and be lean. Eric is also right about if one of the motors goes south there is something wrong like trash, air leak, or a motor problem.

Hey Don

Well you learn something new everyday. That would be the third time today for me. I just assumed it was plastic, seeing as I have never owned a new twin.

I agree with Mr. Canto. For consistency use conservative setups. I set my needles by performing the following sequence:

NOTE: I prefer carburators with no low end needle.

A flow meter can be used to initially get the needles in the ball park.

1) Open throttles slightly past 50% open. Put the radio down and don't touch it anymore.

2) Start first engine and adjust needle to achieve a strong fast idle.

3) Start second engine and adjust needle until engines are synchronized.

To synchronize observe and listen to the boat. As you approach synchronization the boat vibrations diminish and the sound of the engines tunes together.

My Roadrunner Twin 80s (built 4 so far) usually come in at 13#-4oz. +/- 2 oz. depending on the hardware and engines used. The lightest Twin I've ever built was a Jaguar with EXR 80s, 12#-13.5oz. (US Post Office scales)

I'd like to remind all of the Twin owners that Huntsville has a special traveling treophy for the Multi-engine class at the Fall race October 9-10. The trophy was donated by Hilda Taylor since her husband Gene loved the twins so much. The winner gets the traveling trophy for year brings it back his name goes on the trophy and he recieves a plaque with his name to take home and keep.

Yep, Bill is right. The trophy looks real good in my living room. I won it the first year lost it the second year and got it back the next year. And we would love for everone to come to this race with there twins and try to take it from me. It is a real nice trophy.
