Hey guys has any one had luck using an apropriately sized car/truck tuned pipe in thier boats. I am running a mac 45 in a 39" MHZ cougar... in order to keep the COG the recommended 27- 30 % from the transom the motor has to moved back so that the andy brown tuned pipe will stick out about 3 inches past the transom. I'm trying to maximize performance while retaining the beautiful scale lines of the hull.

I was considering using a CEN 7.7 tuned pipe and header but am not quite sure how it would affect performance. Pointing the stinger through the side of the hull. keeping everthing mounted under the canopy.

The other thing I was considering was using the Andy Brown pipe with a 180 deg. Brass tube to point the pipe towards the bow. Put a silicone stinger extension through the side of the hull.. In this application, I plan on keeping the Plug to Weld distance at the recomended length by shortening the header, and pipe the proper amounts. This will be needed because the U tube will add a few inches due to the radius. Measuring down the centerline of the header, U tube and pipe trim each to achieve the desired length.

If you were me which option would you run....

Oh bye the way.. the reason I'm using this for power, I had it previously monted in another hull that saw its demise last week..

Thanks

Pete

I wish you well,, some of these motors are a challenge to get running right with all the "right" pipe, props

and hulls. I doubt that the Mac 45? is going to like the car/buggy pipes,, not much of a signal outa them

things to supercharge a large engine like that,, and they are "picky" to begin with on how you serve them up.

Better off to use the right stuff, plenty of boaters around here to help you, just keep asking questions.

Yeah.... I played with a bunch of truck/buggy pipes on a couple outboards and they were all turds. Just not the same power curve that we use in boats. If you are runing a MAC .45, forget the car/truck/buggy pipe and run the AB pipe.
