As being out of the active racing scene for a few years my head is spinning from seeing some of these rules changes. It's March 19th and the rules are not set for the Nats in June?

N-1, is it 19T or 27T

Sport Hydro, is Andy's UL legal?

thanks

Steve

Ballots are arriving in mailboxes now on the 19/27T issue. We'll know by Apr 15.

Andy's UL will always be legal.

The new hydro rule is being reworked and probably won't be ready by the Nats.

The new rule is intended to close up a grey area that allows rigger-like boats to race as sport hydros.

What about CB, does the vote affect that class?

thanks

Steve

Steve, yes it would effect Crackerbox. Anything that uses the N1 designation would become 19t legal if the proposal passes.

I never though about Cbox. Maybe the 5-10 people that still run it would feel differently and would want to amend that rule to stay 27T.

No matter what the outcome of the vote is, we intend to stay with the 27T motors in CB at our club races. The 19T motors are manageable, they simply require a "wet" setup. We've had a couple of guys try to slip the 19's past tech, but they don't show any massive gains on the water. Even had one try to run a 10T mod.... the best he could do was a 2nd before everyone caught on.... ;)

Doug,

Yes. I would like Crackerbox to stay 27T. With a 27T in my Crackerbox, it's fast. With a 19T motor it will be ballistic. I suspect if the proposal passes there will not be too many boats finishing a heat at the nationals. Most will be upside down. a Crackerbox can't handle any more power unless you make it run wet. The outcome will be a wet running 19T Crackerbox running about the same speed as a well tuned 27T boat.

I'd be glad to ask District 4 to vote the Cbox amendment if 19T passes.

I'll need help with motor language. The current N1 spec is very flawed.

Jay, lets do this.

I'll send and email to all of the guys registered for Cbox and ask if they would do the same type thing that all the OPC fellas did and have a gentlemans agreement to stick with 27t for CB regaurdless of the outcome of the 19t proposal.

I think most would agree that 19t crackers will be a little narley.

Another way to do it would be to use 19T motors but prop down. The larger diameter props used on some ROAR CBoxes are one reason for the boats flipping - prop torque. I noticed this when we used to race CB in Alaska, I was faster with an x435 IF I could finish a heat. The boat was more stable with an x432 and not much slower - this with an original Midnight motor.

By sizing down from an x432 or x435 to an x430 or x431 the speeds might go up a little but the torque reaction would be much less. This may be a way to gain a little speed in CB while reducing the tendency to flip at the same time. :)

Hi Jay,

The 19T is too much with a 427 in a C-Box. I tried it, lots of tab and weight forward. As a matter of fact I run a 427 with a P2K2 right now and I have a pretty quick C-Box. I'm so confident with the boat that I use it for high and team points. ;) I think a ECO type prop would be the best bet if you where going to run a 19T but that's a tough nut to crack.

Paul.

:( Not sure why you guys want to get rid of 27T classes. If anything, the 19T runs great on 8 cells.

my 2 cents.

Steve
