Guy's

i would like to thank my good buddy Kentley Porter,

as he built me a mod Jae 21 (and 45) rigger to his spec's, one of the best built boats

i have ever seen,

At first i was a little unsure about the whole hype with the JAE design boats, but Kentley,

assured me this was going to be awesome,

i ran the 21 on Sunday for the first time, and all i can say is WOW" AWESOME,

it was blowing about 25mph winds and the water had 2-4in chop and i ran this thing flat out

through it with other boats on the water including big gas boats, and it handled like nothing i have ever seen before,

and in these rough conditions we were still seeing high 70's to low 80 mph on the stalker rader ,

very time i ran the boat very body stopped and come to the waters edge to watch, as they were all amazed,

the comments from boaters in my club, were that thing is faster in the turns then the straights,

my Novarossi flash and 35plus were turning some really serious rpm's,

next time out i will do alittle testing, as i only did one prop change, and have couple of different pipes to try,

so big thanks to KP....

have some video of it, just gotta work out how to up load it,(new video camera)

P.S cant wait to run the 45 version in the next couple of weeks

Regards Aaron

i'll add to the mix.... as, Kentley has been awesome and forthcoming with helping everyone with the hull....... Thanks need to be addressed to the whole team that produced this machine... Rod, Ron, and David, right along with Petro for getting it to us....... anybody I left out, and more... shameless.... maybe.

I was able to watch a few early testing heats, in my dist, and the boat darn near snapped my neck watching it turn.....

Hopefully, and to form, the interest and information as guys complete the winter season will multiply and seriously grow.... one of the team's goals, for sure.....

I was blessed to obtain my kit, as a christmas present, and as inexperienced a builder I am.... credit again, due to these guys, I achieved a nice build...... or two...... well.....

I just am 21 hydro..... I love 'em...... this hull, the innovation, thought, and gaining popularity, will be a boost to the boating community..... just being different, a new breed, a trick kit, and the guys around supporting it, to me, made it something to pursue..... Lets keep the flow going, and everyone gains..... ( thats what it's about, right?)......

Mine's at paint...... somehow, I'll pic it upon reassembly....... till then, its a keyboard thing, and slobber, for thaw...... got some great new stuff to shake down.... man, bring on spring........

Oh yeah...... anyone out there built 2 left side sponsons, wanna trade for a right?....... naw, I didnt.......

JAE kit boat: home built, dremel and a sanding block.....laser cutting rocks Joe.....

Kentley

Kevin Bulifant Hydro Engine

Mark Sholund prop

Irwin/Cooper/Porter/Wood pipe

John and Brenda Knight

and lastly.... God, for the blessing, to be where I am, at this point, and to enjoy the rush i'll gain running this machine..... good luck, test well, and thanks.... Mike

AHHHHHH GEEEEEEEZZZZZZ!!!! You guys need to knock this #@#% off, Kentley's hard enough to deal with without you guys strokin' his ego!

Just kidding. :p

KP is a great guy and a very good friend, one of the people in this hobby who if you ask him a question and he gives you an answer, ya better try it 'cause he's usually spot on. You want to go fast with a 21, this is one guy who will tell you like it is and help you get there. B)

I too found Kentley Porter very helpful and forth coming with very good information about the JAE. Not only is he a great guy, he has a great sense of humor!!!

Congratulations to the entire JAE team, and Joe Petro. The JAE 21 FE has already changed the face of Fast Electrics in D-13!!! We have five of them running and two more in the works!! B)

I would like to clarify something.....the only difference between the production [Zippkits] boat and Kentleys record boat was the side profile [height] of the tub.Like the JAE.12G,any changes made to the production boat from the prototype was to lower the build cost of the JAE.21G2 as much as possible.JAE boats are the epitome of the "KISS" principle.....

The production boat has 2-1/4" high tub sides to facilitate the use of a standard Sullivan $8.49.. 8OZ. Slant fuel tank....I believe Kentleys tub height was 2"....He already had a Walt Barney metal tank that he used in his boat.

Kentley also incorporated a "bait box" in the back of his tub.....and why did he do this you ask???.....just because he likes them.. ;) ....the baitbox neither helps nor hurts the boats performance in anyway whatsoever....

Everything else on Kentleys boat is identical to the JAE.21G-2 production boat from Zippkits.....

The only decisions the JAE.21G2 owner has to make is a pipe and prop selection....every other set-up decision has been made for the owner of this first class $79.95 3.5 hydro kit...

I see Kentley also changed the motor mount system. The cowl pictured would be a great addition to the kit. Aaron, thanks for the report and pictures. Richard D

Yea...and he probably used Devcon instead of West epoxy to build it also.....I should have clarified my statement even further.... ;)

I was talking about the boats physical design parameters such as weight distribution, angles of attack, motor placement, footprint on the water,etc,etc,etc,etc,etc,......or anything that would pertain to the running performance of the boat....The production boat will have the identical running characteristics as does Kentleys JAE.21G....

When Kentley built his boat he obviously used what he wanted, preferred or had for hardware.....

P.S.....I also know Kentley got his turnfin from David Preusse.....

Yes, the boat I built for Aaron is the same boat you get from ZippKits. I just happen to like a lower profile and my motor mounts. I offen get asked what do I need to different to my Z-K.

The correct answer is nothing. Just build her stright, true, keep the bottom sharp and pay close attention to the turn fin.

Aaron, I am glad the boat is working well for you. I noticed that you ran a Nova Rossi 35 Plus and a FLASH. What was the difference between the 2? Also what prop did you run? Very few people on this planet (if any)has ever ran 83MPH with a 21 hydro on its maiden voyage. Would love to see the video of the boat.

Thanks

Kentley,

Would you care to expand on the turn fin comment you made? There are many new rigger racers coming into the fold as a result of the JAE's. We know that the turn fin is an absolute key to any boat, especially a rigger. Any help for them and others would be great.

Hi John,

I can tell you from alot of fin testing that driving the JAE boats is a little different. The boats turn EXTREMELY AGGRESIVE. I really had to get used to (in traffic) the closing speeds in the turns. It literally feels faster thru the turn. I have messed with many fins, shapes.locations etc. The fin that comes in the kit will be perfect. Again, I feel it's more of getting used to the turning of these boats, and what fits your driving style..Things like "expo" and servo travel on your TX,should also be paid attention to. .Hope this helps.

Ron,

I am sure it will for the guys. My personal 21 rigger experience as been with the Roadrunner and Blackjack/Diamondback (Crapshooter clones) so it wil be different for sure. How about the turn fin angle? It is critical. Reference point(s) for setup, ie., top of fin to, etc.

Did you find any flexing of the fin during testing? It is one piece and has no support bracket with it. Does it hold up well in the turns?

John

PS: Do not forget about the Fall Nats here in Charleston in October (8-10). Would love to see you join in with us.

Guy,s

my boat is the same as the kit, just lower tub side's, i also have the 21 kits,

i will build after i get back from the U.S in April,

Rod,

sorry think you got me alittle wrong, i was just commenting on the quality build of the boat itself from KP,

you guy's and with Joe have done an awesome job,

will have the 45 jae in the water next couple of weeks,

KP

i ran both the 35plus (14.5mm crank) and flash on Sunday,

35 plus had alittle more torque while the flash had more rpm's,

regards Aaron

I never thought that you were saying you had a "special" boat from the "factory"..... ;)

I just wanted everybody to know that if they bought a Zippkits JAE.21G2 they would also have a "JAE factory boat" in their hands.

As of now,the JAE.21G2 is as good an "all around" boat as we know how to design.....

Martin is really interested in going "fast" so he is always trying to reduce the weight of the boat to do that....

Zaker on the other hand wants a heat racing boat that will survive a season of racing and will run in all water conditions.

All David and I have done is try to design something inexpensive to build that will do both.... :)

You guys have done that and MORE. It will be a big boost to Nitro and I can't wait to see a few of them down here in Florida at the races to measure myself against.

Thanks for your efforts.......

aaron,

i have seen the exact same difference in 35plus and flash motors, i cant quite figure out why the flash has a small loss in torque from 35plus even with a little lower timing, the motors are almost identical except for two sleeve ports..glad you like the boat, it looks great B)

Aaron,

SWEET!

I love the pitch rings in the water! Sort of like "mach rings" out of a jet...

How fast would you say you were going when the pictures were taken?
