I am planing a new eng set up to put in my SGX 90 boat. Could use some advice on prop choices.

The eng will be a RCMK R254 running 10 to 20% nitro mix. I know the RPM will be lower than a big block nitro eng. Some where in the 19000RPM range but should have plenty of toque to turn a high pitch prop. What props work well on a Eagle with a larger pitch. The H50 is a good prop but I think it will need more with the low RPM's.

Will NAMBA let you tace it on that fuel?

You might check with your district director,im not so sure with an ignition system. After all its not a glow/compression ignition engine

Fat chance of that happening. I guess I will have to try IMPBA F hydro and see what happens. Would be nice to not have to worry about glow plug and piston fit. Just bolt on a WT-499 and go for it. Run some gas thew it at the end of the day and throw it on the shelf.

Nope as IMPBA tech chairman I doubt it. Its classified as a gas engine and so gas engine rules apply.

That is a shame. Would be nice to run a nito powered eng with out all the P/S fit and glow plug problems. I guess it will have to be for playing around with till things change with the rules.

I think this would be a good setup in a rigger with lots of potential. It drops right in place of my 91RS in my SXG only have to change the mount spacers.Even has the same bolt pattern. Going to give it a whirl any way. See how fast it will go.

David,

If you have a race with an OPEN Hydro class, then you may be able to run it. But otherwise, I believe that nitro is nitro, and gas is gas.

Open does not mean anything goes, you still need a legal boat and fuel. Just imagine the top blowing off the motor, 3 guys in the pits are injured. Guess what no insurance. The amount of fuel and nitro ignited by a spark makes large amounts of fuel dangerous. Play by the rules be safe and make sure all your friends are also safe.....

Correct. Open category allows you to mix classes of boats that are legal in the class they would normally run in, it does not mean anything goes. Also running a non legal boat on any sanctioned pond, even for practice, is putting the insurance coverage at risk no matter which organization you belong to. Insurance underwriters look for any way to not pay a claim when accidents happen.

I was talking with some one who has run this eng set up in a open class for a year now. So it is not some thing that I congerd up on my own.

Just wondering what class I can run this in. Not looking to cause any problems. Just want to run my boat with this set up. Live on a lake have my own recovery boat can do all the testing on my own.

Its not like the jug becomes a missile it just pops up and stays on the eng. When it pops it is because it dose not fire. The combustion will not blow the jug off only hydro locking it will pull the treads out of the block.

I know imaginations can get carried away at times just want to bring us back to reality.

David, just go with the big boys, run some 70% percent, 10% oil and alky, when running this setup please have camera ready!!!!!!!!!!!

dick

PS, what happened to your RS .91 engine?

I think that you need to go read the rule book very close for IMPBA.

The rod fell of the 3rd channel needle and put a pin hole in the piston. Got it all back together and will break in (HA HA) the new P/S tomorrow.

Got some Morgan Cool Fuel 40% nitro16%syn oil mix and added 2oz of Castor to it. Should be easier on the eng than Otto's 55%

Going to try and run 2 gal. threw it tomorrow.

If all goes well will race it at Melbourne next weekend.

No Dick! No 70% JC you really want me to launch it don't you. I can see you laughing your A$$ of as it goes in to orbit leaving a contrail behind it.

Then again Kevlar straps over the jug hooked to the eng mount bolts should hold it. Heck if it works on Top Fuel Dragster blowers it should hold a "TOY BOAT" eng together.
