Has any body used a sway bar on a rigger to control flex from the carbon tubes .I thinking it would control flex an you could per load sponsons easyer.

Any thoughts on this

Ken

I have found that taking the flex away is not always a good thing.

Putting solid carbon rods in the hollow boom tubes works good. Also putting a tube in the tube.

What and how much you put in will determine how stiff the tube is.

You can control the flex with different amounts at different lengths in the boom tube.

It works but you have to test ,test and test some more to find the right combo for the boat.

Thank you that would be easyer to setup

I will say that in rough race water I found some flex is a GOOD thing.

Also flex in the turn fin will make the boat not as dartie when you drive it.

All depend on how you like your boat to reacted.

I'm not a smooth driver so some cushion keeps me out of trouble.

Well most of the time.....LOL

A thin .055 titanium fin will flex and spring back at a good rate.

This also has to be considered when making boom tube adjustments.

Thy work in sink. one will change the other as far as fine tuning gooses.

Rock solid is not always the best option depending on how you drive.

Ken,

Most of the common boom tubes are fiberglass.

If you want them stronger try some hardwood dowels

at your local hardware store. They will stiffin your boom

tubes up real quick.

Keep Testing To Get Them Right,

Thank you for the comments I was thinking a sway bar would transfer the load from one side when under a load to ths opposite side. That way it would stiff as more load was applied. That way you can adjust stiffness.

Ken

sway bar sounds like added weight.... i did try a titanium turn fin on my 20 rigger 1x..... i did not like it at all, the boat seamed to slide more in the turns..... the titanium fin flexed a little too much for me.... this was at a race and had lost my fin and borrowed one..... so i figured what the hell try the titanium fin... it did work but like i said wasnt for me.

Boom tube flex and turnfin flex are two very different things!
I hope im explaining my self mtruex its like on your car sway bar adjustment helps cars in turns correct.

Yes for sure.... I was just explaining my boat acted different with the thinner lighter fin.....

I have never really noticed a difference going from solid rods to hollow tubes, I would assume there would be many factors that would determine the flex.... boat weight, water conditions, speed.

I have noticed in oval record trials using fiberglass tubes that are not reinforced with inner tubes.......throwing a boat into a corner at 100 mph makes the tubes flex on the right sponson when the turn fin grabs. The front tube goes up and the rear tube goes down thus the angle of attack increases dramtically on the right sponson. Some folks think the fiberglass tubes are carbon fibre. They are not. Sway from one side of the boat to the other I think is far less a concern than sway front to back in relation to the sponson AOA.

yes fin flex and tube flex are two different things but fin flex will change the load on the boom tubes.

Thy do both work together..................

I made a backer for my eagle fin and all I know is I did not like the way it drove with it.

It was to sensitive for me and seamed to have a mind of its own.

The flex in the fin for me works good and it dose not load the tubes as much.

The boat is more forgiving..........

Then all boats are different you have to try things to see what works the best for the way you drive,
