Just curious, I’m building a couple 20 outboards two will be stock boats and one will be a tricked out mod boat. What is the average weight of a stock 20? I’m just about done with the first one and can’t get over just how little it weighs.

I was baffled when i finally weighed my sport 20 dragons (31" long)...they are 5.5lbs

from memory, the lynx hulls are also not 'light' which is a good thing IMO. the Vilain S1 days were of 4Lbs sport boats! That ligth of a boat will be fast, but get thrown around a lot easier in the wind.

my mod vision 20 used to be only just over 6lbs! (5-6oz of lead)
 
I picked up a Lee Craft Tunnel from a friend out in CA. and rebuilt it and gave it some new paint. RTR less fuel it’s 5.2lbs. I still need to put some decals on it to dress it up a bit.

After playing with gas boats the last bunch of years this thing (to me anyway) doesn’t weigh hardly anything.

I built it to try and sell it to someone in the club. We don’t have anyone running anything but gas boats at our pond so the more boats like this that I can get going, the better our chances are of having a OB-class at our races!

nice looking tunnel bud. I have a Lee craft that I was going to try and get run one day. Don’t know a whole lot about them or nitro
 
Chris you need to come and visit us at our October or November records trials talk with Tommy Lee and learn all sorts of things on the Lee craft plus I'm sure Tommy and David Hall will still be trying to get one of Tommy's saw tunnel to 70 mph for both passes. They had 70 mph pass one-way earlier this year.
 
You will find that there is not a magic weight for all 20 tunnels. Each type of boat will have an optimum weight for its design. I weigh everything that goes into my boats so I know before I start what it will weigh once I'm done and I record the finished weight of about every 3rd or 4th boat just to make sure everything is as it should be. I can build a Lynx much lighter than its optimum weight but then you will just have to add weight to it to keep it from popping off the water. If you are racing a light weight boat the advantage is that it is fast but the disadvantage is that it doesn't give as much warning when it is getting into trouble. You will get plenty of DNF's trying to run an extra lite weight outboard tunnel.

You can always add weight to a light hull to tune it's handling :) Hard to remove it from an over weight Boat

You guys put on a heck of a race this past weekend. I heard that your buddy Johnny Adams bought one of the fastest stock 3.5cc boats in the southeast last weekend. You will have to race against that boat...Let us know if we can help.
 
Thanks I want to try to run the old lee craft just to see it run again and see if it can compete.Im just looking for a used motor right now. Then me and Johnny can go do some testing. Maybe we can get a little interest in this class down here.i always liked running the outboard tunnels.
 
If you need anything just give me a call. I don't have an O/S for sale..sorry. . You can find them though. You will most likely have to put a new P/S in it if its used. You have to be easy with the little O/S engines. You can't survive many lean runs or lots of high revs on the bank like you hear some guys do in the pit area at races. If its on its peak fit you might just shorten the sweet spot if you do that. I've seen it happen many times. That nickel liner will not hold a fit like a chrome one will. I wish they would upgrade to the chrome liner but if they were going to do that they would have done it by now. Anyway, you should get some interest down there and if anybody needs help getting started with a new setup or putting together and older outboard tunnel just let me know if I can help you I will.
