Hi Everyone,

I'm in the market for a good spray good to lay down colors and clear coat. I've been using an inexpensive($75) DeVilbis gun for years and think it might be time to get a new one. Most of my paint jobs come out pretty good but I've always seemed to have some trouble laying the clear down flat. I'm thinking some of this could be caused by the gun and some by the user.

For those of you that love to paint, what would you recommend? Also if you have any tips for the clear coat I'd love to here them.

Thanks.

You may want to elaberate on the paint you are spraying to help narrow the scope. Alot of new clears have a narrower scope for application than before.

Time, temp, humidity, spray pressure, how much applied. Flow out time can be affected by any of these

What's your budget? You might want to consider looking for a used pro unit like a SATA

I use a techna pro light. . I just got a new one, it was $800.00 , but I spray ppg envirobase water. I have a water gun and a clear gun. . for the average home painter , a devilbiss finish line will do a great job. go on e-bay , there are hundreds of them. what clear are u using, that makes a difference. I used chroma premier before we went water ppg line. loved that stuff !

Tom, that's what I was going to say, I've had the same little Sharpe jam gun for 25 yrs.

The SATA MiniJet is the best I've ever used. I did a lot of paint work with cheaper guns as others have posted but once a good friend talked me into trying the SATA it was like stepping out of a Ford and into a Ferrari. Both my SATA MiniJets are at least 12 years old and still shoot like the day I bought them and have never had to replace a single part, the quality is second to none.

no matter what you buy, make sure you clean it real , real good after each use or your Ferrari will be a pinto in no time.
Absolutely!!!!!!!
After shooting a little primer today it reminded me of this thread. Like Dan said you gotta take care of your gear, attached pic is my almost 14 year old SATA minijet 4, one of two I have........

Thanks again everyone, I did go with the minijet 4. I'll be sure to keep it clean. Do you normal breakdown the whole gun or just spray thinner through it and wipe it down externally real good?
