Well it looks like Speed week II is getting quite a bit more interest than last year’s event! My goal is to get the fastest nitro, electric, and gas boats together at the same event at the same time. With 7 days of running on a really good pond and with traditionally good weather I think we can set some really fast records. How cool would it be to have a 120+ mph nitro boat, a 120+ mph electric boat and a 100+ mph gas boat at the same pond at the same time? Here are some of the details as they are developing:
I have been actively seeking corporate sponsorship to have hulls, hardware, etc. to award for certain accomplishments. Until I get the final list of donations I won’t know for sure what awards we will be able to give, but an example would be: an award for the person who breaks a record by the biggest margin. Or the fastest mono or hydro, etc. Or maybe the fastest gas or electric or nitro. My goal with this is to provide a little incentive to the guys who are capable of setting records to put out the time, and money it takes to attend an event like this.
It looks like the FE guys are really excited about attending. They are comparing Speed week to the big FE record trials held at Legg Lake and are excited about having another event to help push the electric speeds even higher.
It looks like more of the Florida guys are getting prepped to join us as IMPBA members and give it a good shot at setting some records. Note to all…make sure you renew your 2005 IMPBA membership EARLY if you are going to run on either Sat or Sun (Jan 1st or 2nd)
I have been getting a large amount of interest from the tunnel hull guys from all over! There appears to be a really big group of folks wanting to take some of Tommy Lee’s records away.
Yeah, it looks like the night racing at Hooters is back! Our plan for right now is have the party and night racing at Hooters on Friday Dec 31st or Saturday Jan 1st, but this may change based on any New Year’s parties.
For the first time at a Valdosta record trial we will be running 1/3 mile oval. For those of you who have not seen the pond, there is no better place to try and set an oval record. The drivers stand actually hangs out over the water and is about eight feet high! You won’t be able to get a better view of your boat on the course! Yes, if requested, we will be happy to group the oval guys and SAW guys and remove and install the course buoys as requested. Note: we will be setting up the oval course after I get there on the night of 26 Dec so please don’t be upset if you can’t run for oval records the first morning (we may ask you to help us out with the course between SAW runs!).
As always, Jason and I are prepared to bend over backwards to be awesome hosts, and to help you have your best shot at a record.
Until the next update, if you have any questions or inputs please let me know,
Glenn
