I now have both components of the TotalBoat Silvertip epoxy. The mix is nearly totally clear,.. I think more clear than any I have used,.. Mas, West, HobyPoxy.. Did a small section of some wood last night.. this morning was smooth as silk and seems totally clear..

If I can figure out how to hold the boat so that I can turn it over and do both sides, I will probably brush on a coat tonight.

Any suggestions and that? Ill post pics soon,.

Tony,

This is how I have done my last couple of boats with amazing results. I used the Systems 3 which takes a good 8 hours to set. So I mix as recommended. I brush it on to the boat with a wet but not thick coat. I let it set for about 15 minutes to soak deeply into the wood. Then I use blue paper towels to wiped all the excess resin off. Once it is done I let it completely set overnight. The next day use a single edged razor blade to scrape all the surfaces and they become glass smooth and perfectly clear. Be sure to keep your blade flat as not to gouge the finish. It is completely sealed and ready for paint.

Here is an update on the SYSTEM3 SilverTip sealing resin:

The resin could maybe be a little thinner but flows very well. I mixed some up in a plastic cup and brushed on with a foam brush. The product is colorless as I am concerned,.. no darkening of the wood, no dirty epoxy look. I put one thick coat on the top. it is not perfect and would have come out better if I was more patient. I think the best result would be from one thin coat, let cure over night, sand a bit and then a final coat. The product sands very well the next day and any sags or lumps are easy to clean up.

No matter how I think about it or try, I'm still way to impatient for sealing or painting well. but I'm getting better slowly.

I also added a layer of glass to the flat section of the ML cowl fro this boat. The material wetted out pretty much instantly. This is also a very good product for glassing, Which I'm pretty sure is the original intent..

So,.. all in all I think this is a very high quality product.. probably better than any I have used, which are all the common ones..

Also, this material really does sand easily,.. to go from just this clear to paint i think I could have the boat ready to shoot in an hour or so.. Just sand out any fisheye or crap from me putting the sealer on too thick.

Anthony,

I went to look Totalboat Silvertip up and I found a System Three Silvertip epoxy and a Totalboat Penetrating epoxy which did you use?

I would like to try that penetrating epoxy as well though.. I looked at it also.. I don't think it will lay up FG as well though.
