Seaducer Mono Question

Gents:

Assuming I leave the strut angle exactly the same (no negative or positive) what effect will moving the strut up or down have? I am trying to loosen the boat up.. Thanks Tony j

Strut down = tighter

At least this is my experience w/ Seaducer hulls...

I dissagree with huff. IMHO If you put the strut down it lifts the whole boat out of the water making it looser.

Strut higher makes the boat settle, and run wet, making it run tighter.

Best thing is to try it both ways and see what the boat likes.

Tony, the best running `Ducers that I've seen run always seem to run "wet". Too loose and they chine walk badly from what I've seen.

Should have stayed with your Microburst! :lol:

Olly, you are correct. It's the opposite of a hydro.

40 boat? Remeber my 40 Seaducer was subsurface drive and it lossened up nicely, the purple one. Partof the problem with the surface drives is you're stuck with limited adjustment. On my 80 version, I broke through the keel to clear the square drive ferrule and it had no negative effect along that last 1.5 inches. This helped me get the prop deeper.

I have to agree with Huff. I'm sure I talked to Jerry about this and I've been under the assumption that you raise to loosen and lower to tighten up. I believe the explanation I got was that raising the strut on a surface drive mono actually puts less prop in the water at running speeds. Making the boat faster and up out of the water. These adjustments should be very small on the Seaducer as too loose makes for a driving nightmare.

I hope there's an expert in the house because right now my .40 mono it stuck to the pond until the tank is half empty. Then look out because the speed comes up and the boat still handles great. Like Ron Olson said... Ducers run better wet.

You say that it’s stuck until the tank is half empty? Is that with other boats on the water?

I set up both my 45 and 67 Seducer’s to run very wet (stuck) with no other boats on the water. Once you get the chop from 5 or 6 boat heat they come alive.

Struts are all the 1/8 inch from the bottom with 1deg of negative.

When in doubt, call Jerry. He is always very helpful

Will: That's exactly the way it's set-up. By itself it looks slow and stuck to the pond. After mill time and once a bit of fuel is burned off I run just about as quick as the rest. But, it handles better than most once the racing begins.

Like Tony, I'd like to understand exactly what strut adjustments mean to the aditude of the boat. My strut is higher than yours and has positive angle. I talked to Oscar about this at Elmira and he claims each and every hull is different right out of the mold. Add to that, different building set-ups and styles. That's what makes this hobby so much fun.

With a seaducer it is just as HUFF states.

Lower the strut = tighten up

raise the strut = loosen up

Ron, what is the measurement from the plywood transom to the plug?

I don’t remember what Jerry’s instructions recommended, but I just measured mine at approximately 14.25 inches.

News from the pond...

I hogged the strut hole and raised the strut about 1/16 inch. I was able to pull a prop consistently that I could not pull before. The boat was definitely looser, than it was previously. I will see how it races @ Saginaw on Sunday.. Tony J

The boat was looser and ran in traffic lots of throttle on and off pipe when needed. I am pulling a prop that I could not before, I will be testing going up another 1/16 this weekend.. Tony J

My name is Dave Bestpitch NAMBA98 Jerry's west coast rep for Seaducer

I can help with my experience (I hope)

the strut should be about 1/16 up from the bottom the angle is set to make the boat tight or loose

I think where the problem comes is the perception of the boat running too wet

the boat show run wet from the stern to about 1 inch forward of the deck rear when running in calm water guaranteed it will loosen up when in a heat with other boats

you will find that the boat will be more dependable and drive easier with this setup

this is all predicated on the fact that you put the boat together exactly as the instructions say and use the suggested prop
