How far off the transom should the rudder be on a rigger?

Should the prop be next to rudder or behind the rudder?

Thanks

Mike

BTW 67 rigger if it makes a differance.

From 2" to 2 1/2 " off to the transon work great on most riggers .

Props always behind the prop also to save your servo!

ok, maybe I'm doing somthing wrong here.. Prop behind the rudder??? SAY WHAT?? Shouldn't the prop be in FRONT of the rudder???

Gil, are you running two props?? Prop behind a prop?? If so, please post pics!!!

I know for fact this has been a long day for me.. Might be the same going around..

Thanks for all you help

Heres where I am confused! Bought all Speedmaster hardware for a 67 rigger if i install

as sent the prop is next to the rudder. I have a shorter rudder bracket but still in order

to get the prop farther back then the rudder i have to bring the strut back farther then the directions say or the brackets that came with the strut allow.

So would you use longer strut brackets and move the prop farther back?

Mike

mike the whole goal is to keep the water coming off the prop from hitting the rudder blade. on my 20 hydro the trailing edge of the prop is at the trailing edge of the rudder. i have no problems with prop walk or turning.

Mike,

I agree with Jon. All my (6 of them, except for a 45 Crapshooter) are set the same as Jon stated. Trailing tip ot the prop equal with the trailing tip of the rudder. I also have no prop walk or turning problems. My rudders are set at the outside edge of right rear of the transom which is where I prefer. I have one other rigger with the rudder on the left side and it can become unpredictable in the turns. Right side placement is much more predictable. Just my personal preference but most rudders are located on the right side.

Thanks for the help

I wanted to make sure that was right.

Every rigger I look at seems to be set up different.

I have 2 riggers, and 1 has the rudder on the right and the other one on the left.

The one on the right, trailing edge of rudder even with the tip of prop.

The one on the left is in front of the prop by 1/4 inch or so, and being on the left the steering is very touchy. THe way the rigger was set up when i got it. So left it.

There about even as far as next to noooo prop walk.
