I am looking for boaters in the Grand Rapids area. We need to do something about this lack of running clubs in this area! Please let me know that there are others out there.

Send a message on here to Steve Colby. Several months ago they were talking about a site that they found to possibly start running there. Couple other folks on here know him so they might could get you in touch with him.

Mark

I see that you got my PM!

Some of the G.R. boaters in here are Wade Swatzell, Steve Colby, Scott VanSlooten, CJ and his dad (outboardman10 and newbieboater) and a few others.

BTW, welcome ot the site!

Mark, I still don't know what's going on with the Sanford Lake site. They haven't returned my e-mails since we visited them last fall. Scott was supposed to be in contact with them also. One problem that we found out about once we looked at the lake (more like a pond), we found some signs posted that the lake was owned by a gravel company. The Great Lakes Racers track is on property that abuts the lake but there is still the issue of whether or not we could use the site. It would take a lot of work to clean up the area as there is a lot of garbage that was dumped there. Other than that, it is protected from the wind as it sits about 30 feet below the surrounding land. There are 2 shots of the lake in my Gallery.

Hi Mark and welcome to the boating world. There is a bunch of us here in GR just don't have a good spot to run yet . We have been running in the Advance pond at Port Sheldon and M21 between Hudsonville and Jenison. Scott VS

Hey Mark. Hows the boat building going? I will have to send you some picture of my boat. I had it painted last fall and never had the chacne to run it before thigns got to cold/busy. I will have a new addition this year as well. My wife and i are having a little girl in 6-8 weeks.

Yeah there is a big lack of places to run adn places to get stuff. There are plenty of people here though that can help you out. Just keep an eye on things here and you will be able to keep up with things that are going on in the area

Steve, maybe you can point him to that new Hobby Shop up by your house. The only LHS that I've been to in G.R. is Hobby World and everybody knows how bad that place is!

I wonder how that paranoid old woman is doing? The last time that I was in there I heard that she wasn't doing too well.

The ponds are still frozen here too, even the Toxic Pond is iced over and that rarely happens. I saw a guy out there the other day ice fishing on it!

Ron, since he is in Kentwood, Riders is the closest LHS for him. I know that I am more than ready for the ponds to thaw!

I can point him there but last time I was in there teh guy still didn't have any boat stuff. Trucks and planes is about it. Now that may have changed some but I doubt it. I think if the owner saw enough interest in boats he might start to stock some things. Maybe I will stop by there again soon just to see how things are going and see if anything has changed.

Yeah the water can thaw anytime. I need to get the new boat on the water. I also need to pick an engine up for it yet. Have an older K&B but want a green head cmb for it. With any luck I will be able to get that this spring before I hit the water.

Thanks for the info. I have been to both places and also looked around Lansing and Kzoo area but haven't seen much. I go to Detroit every other weekend and I try to stop at Joe's, they have everything, but I mostly buy from the internet.

I believe I ran into a few of you at the pond off of Chicago Road about 3 years ago. I had just bought a deep V with an air cooled homelite motor.
