I am in the process of completing a JAE21 and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what to use to cover the radio box besides the wood cover that is provided. I have seen various pictures of other materials that are being used and was curious as to anyone's opinion as to what is the best, keeps it shape, is more sturdy and is easily accessible. Any input would be appreciated, Thanks.

John,

Use the ply provided with the boat and finish it like I told you when you were here a few weeks ago,

John,

Cant completely get the bow out of the wood and spoke to Mike about it and he said most of these pieces are that way and its near impossible to get it 100% flat.. Was just looking for an alternative for a better fit.

Call me tomorrow before 5pm and I'll tell you how you can get most if not all of the bow out of it.

I prefer to use 3/32 or 1/16 thick clear Lexon. You can get it at Menards or Home Depot. It's strong, easy to cut and sand. You can see if you have any moisture and you TX light without taking it off! Have them on all my rigs.

Use smoked plex instead of clear and you won't have any condensation build-up inside the radio box. You will also still be able to see inside and it looks kool...

1/32" G-10 is plenty stiff and strong enough. I've even used it on a .67 boat with a pipe mounted to it. Just put a doubler under the pipe bracket if you are mounting the bracket to the cover.

I've been useing a colored clipboard from Wamart. It works good around nitro & gas. I had gas get on my Easy Vee radio box ,the plexaglass looked like a bannana, even after a clean up. It doesn't chip when cutting

I had some thin carbon fiber sheet so I did mine up with that. Lexan is usually easy to get as hobby shops sell Parma Lexan in various thicknesses. You can use RC car body paint on the inside. I did try the smoked black paint last week but it didn't turn out too well. There's also other colors that are semi-transparent that otherwise need a base coat put on after the color coat, just eliminate that step if you want.
