After many years running cables with no issues, and the simplicity and adjustability of cables, I'm not convinced that wire drives are all that... maybe for some, just not me...

Old habits die hard you know....
I’m running cables. That’s all I knew when getting back into it last year. From what I can see:

Pros: More forgiving from an alignment standpoint.
Cheaper
Sturdier

Cons: Heavier
Wire drives seem to be faster

There are guys in my club that swear by the wire drives and I will try at some point but everything I have so far is set up for flex cable. It’s would seem a lot easier to build planning for a wire drive than to try and retrofit. The alignment needs to be dead nuts or the shaft will break.

One of these days…

I agree Rich...

New build? , I might try one...
Retrofit? Nah...

I do some things on my cable drives that may or may not matter to some, or be worth all the trouble, but it works for me...

I can't see how a wire drive can make that much difference over a properly set up cable...and if the risk of a wire drive breaking
is higher, then I can't agree it is "better"..

I’m using a cable. I haven’t had any problems. I fellow boater is using a wire drive. He has no issues with his but your setup has to almost perfect.
