I'm new to 1/8 FE Scale racing and I think I'm going to use an iCharger DX6 as my charger (not committed yet) but need to understand how big of a power supply I need to support the DX6.

Assume I'm going to be racing and maintaining a couple of 4S 6200 mAh or each 8600 mAh batteries. I would guess most of the time I would charge at 6 to 10 amps but might want to warm batteries up and charge at faster rates from time to time.

How many volts, watts & amps of power supply do I need?

Also, if the DX6 is not the right charger any charger suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, Ken

The DX6 can do 1500W of charging, however you are unlikely to ever charge that high. It has an DC input range of 5-34V so you can use either a 12V or 24V supply. Based on your charging needs a 600W supply will work fine. If you have other accessories that run off 12V, I would steer you towards a 12V 50A supply. If you only will use the power supply for this charger I would recommend a 24V/1000W supply. That will cover any future needs too.

There are hundreds of options in these ranges. A couple of good options new:

There are also a lot of used server power supplies on eBay and through other RC hobby sites. Buying used will save a fair bit of money, but these used power supplies have a finite life left in them.
