I also feel a mail in with a reasonable deadline, say two weeks before an event would allow you to show your intended entries to others. Hate paying 3 months in advance. Pay/pal is not free service and only adds cost.

Right there with ya Mic, I still have TWO checking accounts.

As crazy as it sounds in a way I miss parts of the old mail in days. People had to commit early and mail in well before deadline. Also pre 2.4 days you'd risk a possible frequency change phone call as well if you didn't enter early. Now unless it's a huge event people will often wait to the last minute to enter making it tough on clubs hosting local/district type races to plan trophy/ raffle prize purchases, food catering (many food catering and "roach coaches" will not commit without minimum head counts) etc.
