I think it may be on the invasive species list in the USA but I've heard there are still some plantation growers there (for commercial use).
We have a few growers here in Australia so it's readily available.
A very fast growing tree, up to 7ft per year (in optimum conditions) so supply is never a problem.
As light as balsa wood but stronger...still has a little bit of Flex but you've got to apply some reasonable pressure to bend it.
Resistant to rotting.
It has a fairly straight grain so is easy to cut and sand/shape.
VERY light so adds very little overall weight to your boat (negligible).
Epoxies etc stick to it very well and create a strong bond.
Great stuff for rc boats due to the above.
If you haven't tried it, give it a go....it's like it was made for rc boating, all the right attributes.
