lol i had to put something stupid up top.

i just finished painting my tub and sponsons on my 3rd version of my hydro.. in the past i always cleared both the tub and the rears.. well. i was going to paint the rears this year and decided not to. reason is i don't know how to paint both the inside and the outside of them, without touching them or trying something stupid.. if i painted one side.. waited for it to dry and the next day paint the other side i would have overspray big time on them.. SO. anyone that paints rears sponsons.. can you tell me how you do it for future reference because i am sure this won't be the last time i build a new boat lol.

the sponsons were not mounted to the tub

thanks

chris

Hey Chris,

I have heard of people putting a screw into the inside surface of the rears, ya know under where they are double sided taped on or glued on. That hole is hid and can be easily sealed later.

Think popsicles! :D
For sealing and painting the rears I now drill two small 3/16" holes up high where the 3M tape will be when they get attached to the tub, then epoxy in dowel rods to use for holding the sponsons while the sealing and painting. Once that is completed cut the dowel off flush, seal the cut wood and touch up with a dab of paint. B)

What Ive done is like above, except smaller go to the plant section at wal-mart and buy some floral wire its cheap, drill a small hole that it fits in snug angle it up, poke the wire in at an upward angle and bend it like a hook hang from what ever to paint them when done just pull the wire out and a drop of epoxy to seal the hole its a tiny hole that will go un-noticed BUT like above put it under the tape area so its hidden.

thanks for the info guys. i will give that a try next time.

hopefully this is the LAST boat i build for myself for this yr. lol

if not.. i will add this one to the pile of junk already tried.

I take some coat hanger wire and sharpen the end, poke a hole on the inside where the tape will be, use a little CA and stick it in.

Fill it with a little epoxy and filler when done...

that would require two things marty

one, YOU WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO RUN THAT AMERICAN IRON!!!

two you would have to run higher than 15% nitro LOL!!

chris,

I stick two T pins Ca'ed in where the tape goes on the sponson and either use stiff wire or clothes hanger to hang it with then just CA the little hole closed
