Guys, with the nats coming up in our district, I would like to make up some models to provide at our event. Does anyone have one you could send me to copy? I would send it back...let me know if you can help me out.

Thanks, Bob

Al, are standard rubber bands legal for these boats? The "motor" on the one JD gave me got so knotted up that it failed miserably in my second heat last year

Mark,

if you have a paddleboat that was supplied from a Nats then you are fine. What is important is that you run the same rubberbands as the competition to make it fair. If you run contest rubber for free flight airplanes and the competition does not, you might have a problem because you can go almost forever. Customarily, the host club has supplied the rubberbands.

Its designed to be a fun class for the kids and adults. However for some reason, there is a lot of rooting and yelling around the pool and the kids always seem to prevail in the Winners Circle.

Sounds like Dunny knew just when to pass that boat on to the next racer.

Thanks,

Al Waters

Funny you say that, Al, it was a little kid that beat me. I guess I need to fine tune the paddle a bit before trying again

The ones Bob will build for the Nationals will all be equally competitive and they make good souvenirs. The trick is the proper depth of the paddles, pre-stretching the rubberbands, wind between your legs until when you hold the paddleboat by one of the paddles freely, it looks like it is sitting at an angle of 4 o' clock, don't let the paddles slip while winding or an injury could occur, and wind in the proper direction so that the paddleboat will go forward. When all said and done, hand your paddleboat to a nearby kid. They know what they are doing much better than us.

Marty,

I have no plans to speak of. The best plans are those limited by your imagination.

Thanks

Basicaly its a piece of pine with a cutout for a paddle. OVAL length is 15", width 6", with a 3 wide slot cut into the back about 5" in. Taper the front of the board to a point and your done. Paddle blades are 2 wide with a length of 2.5" from spindle or 5" diameter. Posts are about 2.25" in from back and 3" long. ENJOY

After my smack talk my wife informs me she lost in the final to a 10 year old seasoned pro.

If I remember (obviously not very well) they raced two at a time and the winner went thru.

I tried to send some of the ones I had from Utah to Bob. My daughter had left hers somewhere and Robert Holland had picked it up. So when he sent it to me he also sent a ton of leftovers from Utah as well. I attempted to send em to Bob but USPS left the box on his porch and someone kyped it. I have a couple more Bob from last year I can get to you I just don't want to USPS em again. Damn thieves anyway....sucks.

Yeah...the $..t people do boggles my mind. Thing is the person that took the box probably just tossed them...
