Hey guy's.

I was talking to a good friend tonight and got me thinking.

I did some testing today running my e-hydro..

Does anyone know what the 2 lap oval record time is and what the speed that was used to obtain it.

I am by no means a time trial guy but after testing today. I think i got something that could do it, assuming i am close to what record speeds are for the oval times.

And what time trial events are left for the year.

Thanks

chris

Hi Chris,

As far as I can tell the 1/3 oval record for E hydro is 17.036 sec at average speed of 70.439mph done by John Finch in CHESAPEAKE,VA on 10/25/03. Regarding next Record trial, It looks like the next and last (for the year) 1/3 oval record trial will be in Huntsville AL on November 14-16.

Hope that Helps,

Paul

Current IMPBA 1/3 mile oval record is 17.036sec set by John Finch in 2003.

There is a TT at Huntsville this weekend. I have some pics of perfect water this morning. By the time we were ready with the A tunnelbboat the wind picked up. Changed the motor over to the A-mono, and the wind layed down, and it was too flat for the A mono. Spent most of the day playing in chop with just myself and David Hall. It layed down again for good around 5pm. Too bad just about everyone is at Charleston. I hear that the tunnel boys from Montgomery may be there Sunday. Mike Talley is looking for the Sport 20 OB record. Maybe Sunday will be the day.

There is another one at Huntsville in early November. The sanctioned TT's are in the IMPBA schedule on the website.

I don't remember exactly but the speed at bouy #1 was around 90mph. The F record is about the same time and that boat was doing 100mph at bouy #1.

Two things to learn here:

1) Lots of speed lost in the turns, i.e. 100mph straights with 70 mph average

2) Lots of speed gained in the turns, i.e. 90mph boat has same lap times as 100mph boat. The 90 mph boat was more managable and ran a better course, but still as fast as a 100mph boat.

From what I've seen of your 60 boat I think with the right conditions you could do it. :D

Won't be as easy as it looks though...

Don,

i was talking to John about it not to long ago, it was he's 21 heat race boat,

he said it was radered at around 79.8mph in the straights.

i'm with you guy's 1sec is alot to find....

regards Aaron

That's corect Aaron! John's record boat was also his race boat that has won many races.

Only difference was the length of the pipe.

Andy........Do you remember when all we had to take to record trials or the Internats were heat racing boats? All we did was change the prop, put on a different turn fin and change the pipe length. I held the E-hydro SAW record for three or four years with a heat racing boat until you took it. And you took it big! Aaron is right......but tenths of a second is sometimes hard to find.

Yes Rick, many records both SAW and OVAL have been set with heat race boats.

I watched Mark Bullard set a 45 Oval record with a stock Coyote/OPS 45 combo.

I set the F hydro SAW record at the 1993 Huntsville IMPBA Internats with a twin 90 Eagle race boat. 89+ mph. Then in 1994 set the E hydro SAW record at the St.Louis

Internats...again with an Eagle race boat. Both boats used the full heat race turnfins and slightly pitched race props.

I've seen sub 18 sec. ovals posted at the Hydromasters back in the 1990's with race boats.

I think only a few (not all) of the more recent oval records are held with hulls that are not raced on a regular basis.

The bottom line is that RACE boats just keep getting faster! :)

P.S. I didn't use special SAW boats until AFTER I ran 100 mph with my 45SG/CAM45 combo!.

You missed some great water and air density for bigger boats this past weekend at Huntsville. 17 hrs! Where are you coming from, Canada or Northern Wisconsin? Detroit is only 13hrs away. Chicago may be 14hrs.

Guy's

in 2002 i set the Australian 67 hydro 2 lap oval record and SAW record with my oval boat,

for the Oval record was my oval set up, same prop but no cowl, as i lost it that morning, 17.91sec

SAW record was my oval boat with no turn fin and a v962/3 prop, average over 98mph and 1 way at over 103mph

both record where set with my bone stock 67cmb green head and 50% nitro..

regards Aaron

Huntsville is 627 miles from Chicago and will take 10hr 5min to drive, for me Evansville is half way.

Paul

Im 5 miles straight west of Ohare Airport.
