Can you tell me what flywheel arrangement are you using on these engines? We don't typically see the SG style cranks in the US.

Personally I’m using a pinion with flywheel on top since I’m running geared to get the full potensial out of the engines.
I may look into it and maybe make some custom flywheels for those who might need it 🤔

OS made two of those 21 engines, I think....one of them was better suited for marine application and there also was a difference in port counts....off road vs on road?....

Could you elaborate, Joern?...
Thanks!

They have made, and make, quit a few engines.
The marine engines has quit often shared the crankcase and P/L with the on-road engines. If they are better suited for a marine application has to be judged by each individual in my opinion, due to the different characteristic.
The off-road engine normally have more bottom to mid torque than the on-road engine.
If we can get used to use the car engines as marine engines there will always be a lot of engines to choose from. It does not require more than a dude making waterjackets and flywheel adapters (which is not rocket science by the way)
and if you go geared you could lower the nitrocontent and save bucks, + engine will last for a very long time 😊

I have the twin brother of this one, comes without carb and aircooling head at $ 200

I'm looking for the R2104 with 9 port cylinder...air cooled head is fine...what other brand carb will fit that OS Speed case?....I've no experience with OS car engines, just the old water cooled marine engines.
I would like a new, never run engine, too.
I've been wanting to try an OS Speed R2104 in a light weight 21 outrigger hydro.

They have a 15 mm neck, so you have huge variety of carbs they will fit right into it.
I`m not sure if I have more new engines left, have to check that up. However, you would be better off preordering an engine from Rody.
This is based on the new R2105.

Ok, so the $200 engine is a 9 port R2104, air cooled head, no carb, and it's used....just how used is it?....could we get some clear photos of piston top, cylinder wall, and head button squish/bowl area?....am I understanding you correctly?

You are not 100% right, there is no air cooled head, only water cooling jacket. It has half a liter fuel thru it, you will need to continue break in cycle.
It comes in the original box, less the above mentioned. Shipping and payment conditions similar to the other advertised R2104.

Ok, now I understand....my apologies, I did not notice the blue 'one' link in your post #11.

Hang tight, I have a couple of engines for sale right now.... hopefully when one of them sells you'll still have this one, and we'll purchase. Is it fair to assume that I can still purchase air cooled head through OS dealer?....there's also aftermarket options, I guess-

OS Rocket Racing

Thanks for your time in explaining everything to me!

Joern would I notice a power difference between your used 9 port and my os xz21 I have currently? I think its a 7 port. I have been wanting to try one of the new engines if it is more powerful. I do like the slugged crank and the 9 port sleeve on the 2104. It looks real nice.
What version XZ21 do you have? If you have the OS Speed 21 XZ-M you will probably notice that it has more bottom torque than the R2104.
R2104 is for sure a nice engine, but so was the 21XZ-M (the black one) And that is why I stick to my old 21XZ-M engines like a swiss banker 😂

I have the silver xz-m with the blue turbo head . What's the difference in the black os speed black case and my silver? I have squish at 7 thousanths and I also used a carb off my rz-m21 forget the model looks like a 20j but bigger.

The black one, part # 13952 is an OS Speed engine, a little better all the way thru.
However, I have not had any of the silver, part # 13951, so have not been able to compare side by side.
I believe you will be satisfied with a newer OS engine no matter what type you may pick.

Now if more of you guys across the pond would put your love and bucks on OS engines, it might be an idea looking into the flywheel option for SG shafts. ;-)
