I have been collecting parts to build me a new motor for my 1/8 Scale hydro and finally got the remaining few pieces last week to get her done.

I’m hopeful that with both the water jacket on the case along with the water cooled head, I’ll be able to keep the temp down a bit more while running under the cowling.🤞🏻
I really don’t want to hack up the cowl anymore!

Hey Chris, I don't know if you need or want a steel or brass flywheel for your motor, but I know a lot of old scale drivers liked them to keep good momentum on a big hull like yours.

I remember Louie Bauman ran a brass flywheel on his Squire Shop for that reason... helped with the launch too...

If you need a heavy wheel, hit me up on PM and I'm pretty sure I can hook you up.

I’ll let you know on the flywheel. On the exhaust, the 67’s had a plate between the header and case that was water cooled. I believe I have one somewhere but could not find it. I would like to put one on the engine but might have to make something up first.
 
lol, You know getting old sucks! Right after I posted the above reply I was sitting here thinking about it. So I thought, I know where I have a water cooled header…. Try looking on the boat stupid!!! I have one on the eng that I’m replacing.

I always thought that was a cool hull. I have it’s sister hull (Circus) in the form of a kit on the back burner right now. I have all the fiberglass parts as well. I like your attempt to run a vintage motor in it. I have a 2000 Picco Blue Head I’ll be putting in mine. Man that carb looks really nice, as in machined vs cast!
 
Back in my nitro days I ran the OPS 67 in my 1/8 Scale and 36” Aeromarine Cat with good success. Overheating was an issue with that engine so I would do a few things to help it out.
1. Would carve out the engine water jacket with a Dremel to allow more volume.
2. Machine a groove into the head. Even more volume.
3. Would remove the red anodization on the head and cut more grooves making it look like a meat tenderizer.

I think we are basically on the same page just getting the same results two different ways! I never really had any over heating issues with my 67’s in the past but they were either in monos or riggers and there was plenty of air going over them. My scale boat is a little different but I’m hopeful that this will do the trick!!

Thanks Chris. Came 3rd one year at the Internats with that Timex.
The 1/8th Scales definitely need extra cooling. Here are a few more Scales I ran with OPS 67’s.

One of the ways to insure adequate cooling on a scale nitro boat, especially with dummy motors, is to install 90 degree water fittings on the water jacket to guide the tubing flush to the motor so when a cowling or dummy motor is installed it doesn't pinch the water lines. Lot of sources for them.
 
Well, got the boat back together!! I might just have to take a drive out to the pond this weekend and see how she does!🤞🏻
