Looking to buy a radar detector for those hi-speed runs home from races, but dont have a clue on what to look for or brand etc. Any info would be great .. Thanks Tony J

TRy to get a free one from someone. With the instant on and lazer guns the police use all a detector does is let you know you are busted. save your money for the tickets. Good luck LOL PHIL

:D Along with racing model boats I ride touring motorcycles.

 ** I am NEVER without my "Valentine 1". Has saved my butt more times that I can recall. http://www.radardirect.co.nz/featuredproduct/v1.jpg

Granted as Phil stated: Instant on Radar you can't beat. But most tickets you will get will be going in and out of small towns. The budgets of the small police depts have most of them still using detectable radar and lazer systems.

V-1's are pricey at @ $500.00 ~~~ For the money the "Passport" brand detectors give a lot of bang for the buck and would be my second choice. @ price $200 - $300

I can tell you from owning one for about seven years, the "Valentine 1" is the only way to go. It's consistently rated the best available, saved my butt many a time on those 865 mile rides back from Huntsville. ;)

Radar detectors are the most fun I have ever found comming home from a race. Plug the radar gun into the lighter socket and randomly hit cars that are passing you till you find someone that tags the brakes when you hit them. Then the game is on. The best fun is if you can make them mad enough to turn there detector off then they get tagged by a trooper.

I point my Stalker at the highway beside our pond in London once and a while, lots a fun.

V1 all the way. Owned Escorts for years not wanting to spend the money on a V1 because I thought the Escorts were so good. When I got the V1 and put it side by side with my 7500, there was no comparison. The V1 found the radar way before the Escort and did not false nearly as much as the Escort. Worth the money now that I performed my own side by side assessment.

I know a few guys that use these things that mount on the inside of your windsheild and when it picks of radar frequencies or something it beeps. Then if your over the limit you slow down, they say that its saved their ass many of times, ill try and do a little research for ya but they are really cheap. Not illegal either, well not in minnesota anyways.

On the subject of radar detection equipment...

I heard a story on the news recently about a couple of officers in the UK who picked up an object coming towards them at over 400mph, then their radars stopped working! They had picked up an RAF Tornado on a low flying excercise, the Tornado detected a 'hostile' radar system, automatically jammed it, and automatically targeted it! Luckily the pilot didn't fire.... :p

Now that is some serious anti-radar equipment! B)
