Ok gang, I'm hoping to hear from anyone who has had the LASIK corrective procedure performed on them or say a close friend or family member. I'm SERIOUSLY considering this (I'm about 90% mind made up) & would like to hear some input from those who have gone this route. While my corrective magnification is rather low (only 1.75) I've grown tired of screwing with contact lenses, they seem to have gotten cheaper in quality in recent years & I would love to just be done with them all together. So....... any input, good or bad, will be greatly appreciated!! :D

my wife had it done..... she loves it.... 20/20 one eye and better than 20/20 in the other..... she had pretty bad vision.

My wifes boss had it done..... she is not pleased with the results. she still needs to wear glasses.

From what I can tell.... it does make a difference where you get it done. You need to find out what quality/type of a laser they use.

Are those reading glasses that your wife's boss has to wear?? One thing I have found out already is it is quite possible if being corrected for nearsightedness (distance problem) that it can uncover the need for reading glasses that exists, especially in people over 45 (presbyopia).

Hey Tom believe me your input is greatly appreciated!!! :D Besides, down to earth, honest, real life answers & experiences are just as, if not more valuable to me than a doctor trying to "sell" his point of view. B)

I have 4 friends/relatives that have had it done..... 3 out of 4 love it.

Don,

my buddy wore total nerd glasses because he had poor vision. He got the Lasik eye treatment. Now you wouldn't even recognize him. He has something called better than 20-20 vision by a few points. No more nerd glasses. He said it did take him about 3 months before he could get the night vision effect to go away though. It trickled away slowly but eventually did.

He didn't even go through a recovery period or nothing like most patitnts have to do. And the good news for him was he was able to finally pass the SFPD test to become a cop.

He reccomends it to everyone.

My wife and sister both had it done. They both had great results, and said it was quick and no big deal. The actual procedure takes about 1 minute per eye. They blind your vision with drops for a couple of minutes, so you don't actually see the laser and smoke.

20/20 now. My wife had poor vision, and couldn't do much without corrective lenses before the surgery. It's harder to sneak those delivery boxes in the door now! hahaha

 Don, my wife's younger sister had it done and she enjoys the fact of not weraing glasses anymore, she did say though that you have to get it done again because our eyes degenerate as we age her doctor said. The eagle eyesight should last for 10 years or so she says before you need it again. B) B) B) B) B) B) B) B)

Don both my wife and I had it done a couple of years ago. I no longer need to wear glasses, except when reading but those are just really magnifiers no prescription. I am very happy with the results.. tj

Unlike most of the above, I personally had it done 3.5 years ago. My vision prior to the surgery was 20/750 one eye and 20/800 in the other. That's blind folks. Literally had to hold objects very close to read them and the eye exam board was a blur. Had the surgery done and made a 4 hour trip the next day driving without the glasses. Now I did wear contacts, but I will tell you what, no classes and no bothersome contacts with fuel and dust getting on them has been a dream. I would recommend the procedure to anybody.

Hi Don:

I had the Lasik procedure in 1997. One of the best things I ever did! Before the procedure I was almost a blind as a bat- I had severe astigmatism. The only comment I would make is that you check out the experience/track record of your surgeon. I would be very weary of any discount procedures- especially when it comes to your eyes! My surgeon did tell me that one day I may need reading glasses. I am 41 now, and have not experienced any problems with close up vision yet. And yes it does take a couple of months before you are completely comfortable with your vision at night.

Good Luck,

David

Lasik Will fix your Distance Vision the only problem is there is a another lens inside your eye that help you see close up. As you age this lens inside your eye will not work as well, that is why you need Bifocal or Progressive. Lasik surgery will work great for distance correction, but when you hit 40 you will start needing help seeing close up. If you have the surgery, you can wear reading glasses or make a set of glasses clear on that are clear on top and reading in the bottom.

You will never really get away with not needing glasses as you age. Even people who never have had to wear glasses will some day need help for close up vision. Some people with lasik have trouble with glare at night driving .

Finally a topic I know something about, I guess those two drunking years in college paid off!!!!!

My mom had it done. Her vision was so bad she couldn't see the small in the pavement. Now she sees wonderfuly and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Well I'd like to personally thank everyone who posted, my mind is made up & now it's down to researching & picking the doc. Gearing up for a late May early June surgery date. On the down side it meant picking between this & the Internats as the 'ol wallet can't take the hit for both this year. I think the LASIK procedure is the best choice, just have to do the Nat's next year! B)

THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE! :D :D :D

Yup, my 2 hour exam & consultation is this Thursday. Then as long as everything checks out we schedule the surgery, probably mid June. Can't remember ever being this excited about anything involving a doctor or surgery. :p

Well everything went great at the exam & consultation, the surgery is tenatively set for the morning of June 9th pending the couple days off needed getting approved at work. B)
