Hi Guys!

Got the wife a new (used) car. great car, but the doorlock clicker won't work until you're standing right next to the car. ( this is a 95 GM factory installed system)

Changed the battery.........she can get about 3 steps away now. We have 2 remotes, both have about the same range. The aftermarket clicker on my pickup, and others we have had, works from 30 yards or more.

Any ideas on how to get more range?

Anyone know where the receiver antenna is? ( 95 Eldo)

Thanks for any input.

Bob-

It's very possible the remote is worn out from years of use. Do an Ebay search for GM remotes & you'll probably find one fairly cheap. Then you can do a Yahoo search on programming. Can you tell I did this already? :p

Our '95 Nissan appears to have the antenna for the remote "printed" on the inside of windshield with the same stuff the defroster is put on the rear window. The antenna appears to have a discontinuous place in it. It only works at close range and it works best if the remote is pointed directly at the windshield. I know the rear defrosters can get a "break" in the printed circuit from corrosion (from condensation sitting on it) or from scratching.

i can get more range by holding it under and touching your chin. really try it.

He keeps his cell on vibrate in his pocket too...Weeeeeeeee  :p

Not sure if you have another remote alarm system to compare the eldo's to, but if you are near radio towers or other sources of strong rf, your range can be reduced to near zero from washout. I had the same problem and nearby radio towers were the cause. :(

Hi Guys!

Never would have believed it............. but Tom's suggestion works!!!

The wife thought I was crazy, but she was amazed........

By The way............I used to be a Chevy guy. Built a lot of big blocks for drag racing. big ford motors don't like 8,000rpm plus.........But!

I've had 4 Ford Ranger trucks. I use them for a work vehicle and generaly beat the snot out of 'em. I put 200k miles plus on all of them....... never had a serious problem. The worst was a minor trans part that gave up at about 260k. my 96 is at 185k now......

You guys forgot one ...........

the eldo prolly had the windshield replaced, and they either didn't get a new reciever antenna, or didin't connect it... unless it's one of the odd ones where the antenna is hidden in the dashboard or inner fenderwell... i would take it to a local car alarm/remote stater shop, they should be able to test signal strength of the keyfob and the RDL unit itself.

BTW... you guys know what happens if you drive a ford to far in revese don't you?...

As a GM tech I see problems once in a while where people have lost a remote and got another but not the correct part number. Also you might have to try and reprogram the remotes.

A sales rep showed me that trick years ago. It will increase the range for almost any transmitter.
