I just got my new DD46 for Glenn and it looks like an amazing motor although I think I am going to have some challenges mounting it in the Eagle. Since the motor is actually a turn around motor with a PTO off the backplate for the flywheel and output shaft the whole motor mounting is shifted towards the flywheel a good 7/8". This presents a number of problems:

1) This will impact the CG of the boat

2) The engine head is no longer centered in the cowl and will cut into the side of the narrow section at the rear.

3) Redrilling the motor mounts may not solve the problem because I cannot move the motor back 7/8" on the mounts without sliding it off the rail and I think the original crank will now hit the boom.

Has anyone solved this and what did you do? Also what is the optimal CG of an Eagle?

Thanks,

D

Dave, you may need to move the mounts back father in the tub. Or you may be able to just make some longer rails and leave the holes in the tub where the are now. Maybe Andy will jump in with other ideas. It may be a bit of work to mount the DD motors in boats that have the motor forward, BUT it will be worth the trouble!

My SG has the wrap around version .46 and it all fits in the normal location.

Re-drilling the tub at this point would not be favorable since the boat is in ready to paint stage. The original crank is going to hit the boom if I move it too far back so even longer rails might not solve this. This might be all moot if the overall issue is just the cowl. But I really need to understand the CG of this boat before I can even look at those options.

I can solve your problem you give me your boat and I will put my 45 mac in it, problem solved the only downside is you have no boat anymore. LOL I am glad to see you are finishing your eagles they are a nice running boat for sure.

Can someone post a good side view pic of the DD 46? If I compare the front bearing location of the Nova 46 to the drum housing of the MAC I can see that the DD 46 only needs to move back about 1/4". I don't have a DD here to measure.

It's not that the Nova DD cylinder is moved back, but rather that the output shaft is shorter. This just means that you will mount the engine in the center of the mount as normal and you will use a longer flex shaft in the boat.

BTW- for everyone that is running the Nova, the Nova mounting holes a spaced the same as all of the popular .21 engines. The SGX21 and 45 mounts are the same, so the Nova just needs the SGX 21 mount to drop into the SGX 45.

Beau,

We will have to talk about your solution at the awards dinner tomorrow. I think we can make this work if I can help you with your twin problem! :D
