Manufactuers can only benefit by the real world experiencies and observation of people that actually using the products as intended and not in a microscopic test environment. Tiptoeing through problems will not solve them .. Aftermakket small manufacturers should not have to work overtime to solve these issues . Hope Nova Rossi is watching. Bolt on single rotation , single needle carbs are what work for boaters .
Thanks Tom. Single rotation, single needle works for racers, not for sporters. They are considering two carb offerings for some of the engines to cover both markets so hopefully one day this will become a reality.

It is funny you say this David...i have noticed in the rc car world if something is dodgy or not up to standard...people tell others so and dont just let them co tinue to think ther eare no issues with a said product.

In the boating world, WOW how dare you tell the truth about that said product being a turd! Thread gets locked downand people warned...pretty funny that

I have worked on a few friends outboards and gave up on making adjustments to the stock carbs. On a .45 we went to a simple K&B Red (.340) with an adapter. Motor ran and throttled well. John Albritton made me a carb (.375 bore) and it ran excellent with good low and big end power. Very simple single feed that transitions low to high RPM's easily. Idles back well also. Best carb I have owned.

The carbs we see today are being driven by the racers over seas. They do not run the amount of nitro that we do. So with this they can run spiral barrels and low speed needles. K&B and OPS was some of the first to make barn door carbs for their marine engines but only for the US market. If you look at some of the old OPS carbs you will see that they are just not finished standard carbs where they just made the barrel rotate. They still had all of the casting on the housing for the stop screw and other attachments. K&B when on to make the hard to find 3.5 red carbs and I think there were some other colors also. CMB used to make some the same way back in the early 91 RS motors. I still have two on my twin 101 boat but the barrels have been change to allow a larger bore.

I have been there and done that with spiral barrels and stop pins back in the early days. It make not difference which motor it is. If it has a spiral barrel and stop pin they come out and the carb is change to a barn door type carb. We run to much nitro to run a idle needle. This is also why there has to be a head button change for our motor to run in this country. The head button that comes with the new 91 has my design for high nitro to run in this country. So we do have Nova Rossi ear but don't think we will see a carb change for this country since everyone else is doing the same thing.

But anyone that wants a barrel change I will be happy to help you out. It's not hard but does require a lathe and a little tooling. I will even tell you how to do it if you want to learn how yourself.

Thanks Mic for constructive feedback. I saw John's carbs on your and Jay's boats in Fla and they look great. Yet another option for those of us that race high nitro here in the US and Canada.

Mark. Thank you for your feedback. Your help has been instrumental in getting the 91 and 67 where they are today in such a short time. You for one can attest to Nova's responsiveness in making changes that benefit only us racers here in the US and Canada, even though we are a relatively low volume market. I think "racing" carbs for our engines will be a possibility in the future. Direct rotation barrel, (held into the housing by a simple large diameter c-clip), without the low end needle. I am also investigating interchangable inserts for the barrel similiar to the design Carl Brey used many years ago. Gave the racer yet another variable to fine tune the setup for that perfect carb opening.
Until then there are great options out there. Mark above has volunteered his experience to anyone with access to a lathe and milling machine. There are some great carbs from guys like Dale Powell, John Albritton, and Ken Retallick. There are also a few ZOOM and Orlic carbs floating around as well.

Ron ,Maybe if thy offer the eng with out a carb at a reduced price this will help some on both ends.

I know Dale is designing carbs as we type for what ever the market calls for.

If it works out this may be a option you can supply with the motors from a single source.

Would make a great package from the get go for all involved.

Hey guys os carbs are about the most reliable carbs that I have used on my engines, when I started using the 9b carb all my carb problems went away very well made and last forever rc 90 boat.
