Friends, my first batch of the Nova .21 OB motors will be here in a few days. If you have not prepaid, but still want to get one let me know ASAP...I only ordered a few extra.

Thanks!

Glenn

Friends, the motors are here! Nova did a great job for us...the motors have the standard water cooled head instead of the aircooled one and the carb is almost exactly like I wanted...the low speed needle and 1/2 the spraybar is gone, but the high speed needle is still on the carb. I'm down to 7 motors if you think you might want one.

I also got more:

- .46 motors

- .12 motors

- A bunch of different P/S's

- aprons

- too much more to list...

Thanks guys!!!!

Glenn

Glenn,

I assume that these engines use the 14.5mm cranks. Is that correct? Did you get spare OB cranks?

John, yes these are the 14.5mm cranks. No I did not get any spare cranks in this order.

Glenn
Could a 14.5 crank be turned down on a lathe to a 14mm size and work in a LS engine? There is a needed supply for the OB cranks, of both sizes. They are the weakest part of an OB engine. Suggest you may get some on hand.

John, I'm not sure turning one down to 14mm would be too good...they would be very weak with the big hole running down the middle and I would think all of the hardening on the crank would be turned away (I don't know about this though). Also, these are super long stroke cranks, so they will not make legal .21 motors with one of the normal long stroke sleeve. What part of the OB cranks do you find is the weak spot? Just looking at the Nova cranks, I don't see any obvious weak spots. I am going to be running one of these motors in my inboard boat (they will make a awesome front exhaust motor like the Direct Drive 46 I think) so if there is a weak spot I will find it!

I can only speak for the NR21's and specifically the RX21 LS, it is all I have run. However, most cranks have broken off at the crank pin (did one last weekend after hitting a turtle), some where the top threaded portion meets the main crank body and some through the crank window. I ranked them in order of breakage I have seen over the past 10 years.

I never thought about the super LS cranks being legal in the class. My thoughts were to locate a source of MANY NR 21RX LS OB's out there now running. There is a real need for a reasonable source. Maybe someone can make replacements like Mark Leyde did for a while.

John i Have broken a 35+ stock nova crank but its the only one that i know of

it had done about a million gallons of fuel and broke whilst pulling crazy RPM in my SAW boat

Do you mean the after Market Outboard Cranks ?
Greg,

I believe all of the NR OB cranks before this new factory OB engine have been after market cranks. So yes to your question I believe is right. I have one intention, just looking to hopefully get a source of the OB cranks we are using. There are MANY 14mm cranks in the boat population. I have broken cranks in all 3 areas I noted above. With time, they will break as almost all mechanical things will. We put huge stresses on these engines and expect them to last forever. But not everyone can afford to get new engines. I know that Glenn and NR would hope will be the case and likely will be over time, but not now, and it will take time.

Robert Holland
Hey Robert, the original .46 (180* header) is $400, the Direct Drive .46 (pipe straight towards the back of the boat) is $450. The nitro pipes are $75 and muffled pipes are $85. Either header is $35.

Hi Ryan, no the Nova can not be run in the stock class. Even though it is a factory produced powerhead, the rules state the the motor must come as a complete outboard assembly (powerhead, lower unit, etc) from the factory to be considered stock. If Nova ever decided to manufacture their own lower unit, then it could be run in the stock class.

next question is who do you know that can mod the motor and will it work with a lawless outdrive
