We were all very busy hosting the Can Am race this past weekend, but will get back at it soon.

Hi Tim,

We had family obligations this year, next year I'll be at the Can Am, other than Jerry Betke I can't think of anyone else that was at the first one besides me, maybe Jim Recker but he'd have been really young.

Thanks, John

Would be great to see you next year John, the NLMBC puts on a great event for it's guests.

Hey John,

Think I was at the first Can Am race ever held. I hope to make the Can Am next year if I have any boats left.

I found that when I switched from a 1655 to a 1657, on my JAE with nova quiet pipe, and orlic carb, it ran slow and really rich. Then when I leaned it out enough for the motor to clean out, it went about two laps and blew the plug from being to lean. Tried different pipe lengths and restricting different amounts of water. Blew a plug every time it cleaned out. Switched back to the 1655 and the motor was able to clean out at a richer setting and stopped blowing the plug.

Just went through Olly's motor and found what I think could be several places where the carb "could" leak air, sealed them all up with RTV.

We're (hopefully) gonna try it again tomorrow...

Nova 45 pipe will not like any think under 8-1/2,

For an average in a rigger 9in from middle side of case to join on pipe will work great!

Regards Aaron

Well Olly & I were back at it today, it ain't air leakin' around the carb and it ain't the pipe. The stock carb with the low end needle idled and transitioned better but it's still surging.

He threw the venerable 6280 on it at 10 1/4 and it did the same.

We're gonna drill out the spray bar as Andy suggested but I don't see how that could be it as it flows off the clock without the needle in the line.

We're down to the tank (doubt it) or something inside the engine...

Terry,

I ran mine today, no dice. Motor sounded rich on the bank but very solid. It was flowing a reasonable number, I was hopeful. The boat took off from the launch a little more sluggish, which it usually jumps right up on pipe and is hard to tame. It milled well, and when I pulled the trigger it went as fast as ever, but at 1/2 track it just coughs and nearly dies. It surges from 20 mph to 55 back to 20 in 400 ft. It goes like hell thought the turns, but it has to be starving for fuel down the straights, I can't figure this one out. The plugs come back without even being frosted and there is no sign of load. Hmmmm My water is restricted at the outlet, but I will try clamping it down to a dribble tomorrow.

I dinged up my turn fin so I only go 1 run in today. I'm going to put a camera on the engine bay tomorrow and see if i can spot what is going on.

Exactly what Olly and another club member have been fighting, I've got the motor and will tear it down tonight.

You runnin' the DD, right? NR carb at 0.433" (11mm)?

Camera, there's an idea. There's got to be an answer!
