Terry,

All the extra ports are for the car guys, you would prefer a 3 port sleeve for maximum transfer area. The 5/7/9 port motors due tend to have better bearings and better cranks so ideally you get the high end motor and swap out the sleeve. Try to get one with a heavy metal slugged crank. I found a "hand tuned" Nova 7 port from Karl Heinz Meister years ago that has a slugged crank. Beautiful little motor and screams when she's propped right.

The main difference between the 7 port and 5 port is the exhaust port.

Tri exhaust port on the 7, single exhast on the 5.

I have been getting good results with the 5 port configuration, The 21DD also shares a similar single exhaust port.

If you can get your hands on a crank from an on road Kappo/Kangaroo engine, these will fit the 5 port/7 port marine engines. These cranks are nicely finished with slugs and a silicon ramp.

Terry, the 5 port sleeve was changed a year or so ago and is now VERY mild. The timing numbers are nothing like the 5 port sleeves were initially. The 7 port sleeve has very good timing numbers and will work well for SAW with very little mods required. I watched Jack and Steve run 115+ with a 7 port sleeve in one of Jack's motors. Like Allan said though, the 21 DD is the fastest production motor that Nova makes.

Please note that the current 5 port motors are Awesome race motors and I recommend them a lot. They are just not the best choice for SAW record applications like Terry is asking about..

Terry,

Kentley holds the IMPBA record currently with a 5 port I believe? 2.152 [email protected] MPH

Jack is not running a stock 7 port motor with his Zimmerman Valve intake.

Jack is also spinning aprox.42,000+RPM so there is a lot of work inside and

outside on his pipe design also.

Glenn,

What record speed does the DD-21 Nova Rossi currently hold?

Curious,

Mark Sholund

Ian,

Mike Nowicki is a past 21 SAW record holder here in the IMPBA District #2 where we currently run. (103+ MPH)

Terry is asking the question for Mike. In Australia what does the speed convert to for a 330 foot pass?

Any good motor can be modified to run well, but I do not think you are going to run 100+MPH in stock

configuration. Let's face it SAW is all custom boats, motors, etc.

Thanks For Reading,

Not a record holder but my latest DD motor runs a quick as any modded motor I've owned. Set the head clearance and go fast. Gotta like that. The only reason I would go with the Hybrid for saw is less rotating mass may mean more rpm. but I'm no motor guy for sure.

Mark, yes Kentley holds the current IMPBA record with a 5 port, but that is with the original 5 port sleeve. The DD does not hold the record here in the US, but Martin has made many, many runs over the record with his fastest over 109. He also has a cool Custom motor with a 7 port sleeve that looks to be faster than his DD. like I said, the DD has been the fastest of the production motors.

Ian,

How fast was the 330 foot time? Curious that is all?

Not concerned about stock either Ian, that is why I posted the custom part

about SAW records and their equipment. I know of a few CMB Beta 21 motors

that may shoot at some future records also.

This post is just an opinion fellas, and believe it or not a Nova Rossi 12 motor may

go faster than a 21 very soon. Nova does make some great 12 motors.

Have Fun Testing Fellas,

I had 107 air density yesterday testing!

I'm currently building SAW 21 rigger with 21DD

(Hope to run it next weekend) for LA SAW's

Yes running out of time as I leave in 3 weeks..

So we will see how fast the 21DD is..

Mark 107 air! Wow..... When I set 45 record at 122mph we only had around 92-94 air..

Regards Aaron
