Well, we took a cruise down to the San Francisco Spreckles lake to see the progress of the repairs they did and see how much longer before it was filled. Guess what? There is a new sign posted at our lake it read something like this:

1) IC and Nitro boats may run at this lake Tues, Thurs and Sat.

2) Only two boats may be in the water at the same time.

3) The lakes db level is 65db from shore and 50dbat the center of the lake.

MAN, the cars literally drive 20 feet behind where we run and actually produce more noise than that. Basically, no on if and when they are monitored will not be able to run there.

Sometime ago I had a petition that you all signed to make some changes and that's on hold until they review it all.

What's your take on this??????

2 boats in the water at a time, so if one boat dies guess what???? Can there only be one operating boat in the water?? We don't have a row boat out there so you have to cast to get your boat. It can be up to an hour or even longer when there is no wind to blow your boat before you'll even come close to retreiving it with a ball and rod!!!

Twelve years ago we lost our pond in Oak Ridge TN due to a single noise complaint. An individual built a house accross the lake and complaint to the city government. The city ordinance at the time was 50db at the man's property line. The code enforcement agent along with the police came and measure the sound using the same methodology that IMPBA is fixing to implement. Needless to say, 50db was impossible to meet. We fought the issue for at least a year and lost. The bottom line is that the property owner did not like people playing in the pond across his new house and noise was the easiest thing to use against us. Our pond was located at the entrance to a rock quarry. During week days there is constant traffic of heavy equipmnet and trucks along with normal rock quarry operations like rock crushing, etc. None of that counted.

There is no way you will get your boats down to 65 consistantly. Maybe you need to tell them exactly what the cars are producing, what a lawn mower produces, or what a weedwacker produces. I don't feel that have a good concept of what 65 sounds like.

We had to do a DB test for the county last Friday. We are trying to get a lake and are currently going thru all the politics. We did the test, and we were 89db (gas boats). the lake is 1/4 mile from the road. They walked about 100 yards from where we were running and couldn't hear the boats over the noise of the road. We passed.

It looks like they don't want you there...maybe there is something else out there you can use. Gravel companies are getting a lot of grief from the tree huggers saying the land is useless after they are done with it. Its all about money...if you can convince your county it is worth it, they will work with you. It is a lot of work, but it will be worth all the effort if it is successful.

This letter was from the Vice President of Conventions in Huntsville AL

Good luck!

Brian, that's pretty close estimate if you figure $70-90.00 a day for a Motel room at a decent place, 3 meals, Gas, other food, ice, beverages, etc.

Hell, at 65 dB, I could call the Police on most cars going down my Street, every lawnmower and weekwacker that fires up and barking dogs.

That's just it, they don't want us there. We raced electric and nitro forever there. Look, not to blame it on the gas guys but once they got faster and louder, that was it. There were a few guys that were very reckless and that turned everythign upside down. Now, this is the mess we're in. Everyone is competitve so as the gas guys got faster the nitro guys brought faster boats to rule the pond. It doesn't matter, people love to cause trouble, rc boating is a pain in the a$$ to everyone and anybody that doesn't do it.

I had my 12mm crank O/B with an HPI pipe. It was dead quite but even that could only get down to about 72db.

O dang, how are you supposed to get something down to 60 db? this technology book i have says that vacuums are 60-80 db talking in 30-60 db, and an orchistra is 50-70. from this chart, this is impossible, unless somebody has a super muffler

Hey Big Daddy, try this approach...... know anyone at the local newspaper?? You would be surprised how a nice "bleeding heart" story about how long you've been there, that you've got new young members who are out & active (not rotting away in front of thier Nintendo & X boxes), the club history, (you get the idea) could help you. NOBODY likes bad press, make a friend at the paper then be sure a copy makes it to the desks in your area with some influence........like the mayor, your local congressman, etc. B)

Don,

oooooooooooooo............me likeeeee that idea!

I just gotta worry if they have the balls to stand up to the stiff letters from the bleeding hearts that will cry "RC Boats shouldn't be allowed in Golden Gate Park". Oh well screw them I want to play...LOL

I'm gonna see if there is someone at the SF Chronicle that would do it.

At the sites we tested in Slidell and Huntsville so far the ambient noise level with no boats running has been 82 db going to be awfully hard to get your boats down to a 65db level when ambient noise level is higher than you limit.

Bill Zuber brings a good point in his last post that I forgot to mention, take ambient dB readings from all around the lake (document this accurately, you may need it later, use a GPS to plot points if you can). Do this during normal park usage but look for "peak" activity in the park. You will most likely find the ambient noise is higher than what's posted on your dB limit sign, THAT will look real good in print. Didn't you talk a while back that the sailboat guys started this?? Chances are your issue is not going to be with the "tree huggers" but rather undoing what b.s. the sailboaters planted in someone's ear to start this mess. DON'T get into a fingerpointing match with the sailboaters, focus on all the positive aspects of the club & it's members. The "kids outdoors" thing is real big right now, lot's of talk lately of how our young are rotting thier brains (& bodies) in front of the Nintendo's.........
