The guys at the Huntsville record trials had their db meter setup and checked boats at the event. All boats were under 95db including a Quickdraw powered mono without a muffler!

Don had his db meter at the race on Sunday. A muffled Quick Draw cat in the pits within 3 feet was even under 95db (still sounded loud). At water level/race conditions/multiple boats the meter peaked at 93db. 99% of the time the meter was under 90.

Bob, it goes to show that most people griping about a dB limit really don't have much to worry about. Most would be surprised to know that they are already under or close to 92 dB.

Anyone ever test a Midwest 2 inch band pipe on a 260 zen? or seen tests?

and or a M&D pipe with the built in muffler?

I think the M&D pipe is the loudest, and it has the built in muffler.

Now unmuffled, any one hear a Double cut QD pipe without a muffler?

Tom

Just for the record, the loudest pipe was the M&D pipe on a 260 in a Laser mono which on a pass real close to the shore was 92.8dB. The QD cat was Mike Tyson's which registered just shy of 95dB as it was carried past the meter going down to be launched. :)

John Finch has a 2 inch band Midwest pipe with a T-Mod (Mike Tyson) muffler on his 260 cat. Loudest reading to date was 91.9dB. :)

I've heard a single cut QD pipe unmuffled (muffler fell off while running), in a word - PAINFULL! Can't tell you a dB reading since the meter was on low scale which stops at 100 & it pegged it before it passed the meter.

Thanks Don, Just trying to get a DB on the midwest pipe.

I got a tyson muffler on my QD and it quiets it down ALOT. I even drilled holes in the stinger to help keep noise down.

I tried a big nitro muffler on that midwest pipe and lost 6 mph, am going to have to get with mike and get a muffler.

Thanks

Tom

Nice job guys. I am reading all the posts as they are very informative. And that is what I look for here.

So far out club members have had no problem staying under the 95db limit. Maby we will have to lower the limit next year to 90db! ;) It's no fun trying to reach a goal when it's that easy to do. :D

I have been very impressed with Mike's mufflers in both noise reduction & quality. :)
