After several weekends of hard work, the New St Petersburg Pond is nearing functional condition.

We have the drivers stand up with one stairway completed. By the way, this is the highest drivers stand that I have ever seen since we rented a "high Lift" for a record trials. You should have the best view of a course anywhere.

We are set for our May District 3 race http://tampa-model-boat-club.com/5_14_11.pdf

and hope to see a huge turnout for the race. We have great protection from wind and conditions should be really good.

The signup sheet is up on the RcRacingevents.com website. Enter early!

Visit our website for specifics on the pond and also directions to the pond. If you need advice on places to stay, contact the CD as noted on the flyer and we will be happy to assist and advise you.

We will have places for self contained RV's if you wish to stay at the pond.

Open water will be 8am till 5pm on Friday.

If you have specific questions about the race, please contact me directly.

Hope to see you all here!

Don't forget to look at the 2 specialty races that we have planned for the Fall Racing Season:

GAS MASTERS

The new St Pete site is going to be one sweet place to race!! Calm big water with plenty of room to kill the clock if needed.Coarse set up right on the money. Fantastic site to run straight line & oval record trails.Nice high drivers stand 28ft long 5ft wide. Right in town with plenty of places to choose from to eat and stay. Easy to get to just a 1/4 mile off the highway 2 turns and you are there.

Come on out and help us tear up the water and break in the new site May 14th & 15th.

Hope to see you there.

Rod H.

Had been hoping to help you all get the site setup but I have came upon monetary issues to where I could not afford gas in the truck for the 200 mile round trip. Sorry about that!

Good Luck with the new site and Happy boating!

LMAO!!!!

Robert it's 275 the Howard Franklin Bridge. Take 275 Tampa West to St Petersburg. Take the Roosevelt Blvd. South exit, the exit will be on your left. Roosevelt will pass under 275, go to the first light turn right. On a rise to your right you will see an RC flying field, stay to your left, the lake will be on your left. Can't miss it.

Norm that doesnt tell me a thing i am from south florida, all i know is there are several bridges
Oh sorry

Being that you are online, (you posted here), I would suggest Google maps, www.google.com , go there and click on maps, enter the address' and it should tell you where to go :)

Looks like Ed already did that, he is good at that, in fact he tells me where to go all the time.

Happy Boating

Craig:

Maybe we can post some pictures tomorrow after we work on finishing up the drivers stand.

Now thats what I'm talking about.

Got a elevator for the old folks to get to the top.

When you run the race in Nov will the qualifying laps be legal for two lap records in IMPBA?

Would love to have a legal course for time trials close to home.

Not sure yet about that. Probably not..... We would have to install the timing equipment and not sure whether we can get that done.

If there is any thing I can do to help let me know.

I am hoping to have a surprise ready for the Nov race.

That is why I am asking about the laps being legal record laps.

We have a crack team put together on a totally new boat design. We are planing on running it at the race for the first time.

That's fantastic. So sounds like 11.5 feet tall! A bit taller than the one I'm working on. Ours is just under 10 feet tall. You'll need a landing for those stairs. I am just short enough to not need a landing according to code.

I just hung up with the NAMBA District Director and we are going to also sanction the Unlimited NAMBA. They have allowed us to use the 50 point buoy cut rule rather than the 1 lap panalty and also for the Northern Friends (IMPBA) they can enter for $10 fee instead of joining NAMBA. Many of the IMPBA members already used up their one time $10 that IMPBA allows.

Not sure yet on the record trial sanction, but we will undoubtedly have some record trials here since the lake is so perfect for SAW and OVAL. This will be one of the very best ponds in the USA for record trials and also for heat racing. Probably one of 2 or 3 best that I have seen in 30 years of racing boats.

The picture that Tom Elkins put up is out of date as we have a LOT more completed including a hard top for the Judges area and lost more. Hope to get some images up soon.

For SAW and 2-lap oval events do you just get the course/site professionally surveyed with threaded pipes cemented in the ground and then borrow the IMPBA equipement for the weekend?? It sounds that way from what I have read in the rule book.

How wide is the lake? Will you need to install a ficture in the middle of the water to support the infrared receiver?

Thanks.
