I figured if I'd shared this. It might give people some ideas. I have my own idea but it is easier to conceptualize than to execute so maybe the vast community here may have some resources to make it happen... or at least some version of it.

The idea is to have a single vehicle that contains all of the equipment to put on a boat race while provide a Kiosk type of attraction that is sure to draw attention to any shoreline no matter how remote. It would be built on a truck or truck with trailer that could convert itself into an elevated driver and judges stand.

It would be equipped with the following

  • PA system
  • Large LCD screen displays on the backside that showed scores and video display of races from wide angle cameras mounted on the roof of the structure that are tracked by transponders and can be programmed to track first place to 8th place or any combination in between. It'd also be tied to a database of entrants that shows a picture of both the driver and the boat they are racing in that heat so you can see who won a race from your pit while you are getting ready for your next heat.
  • It also has a built in timing device and radar gun to track and display speeds.
  • All of which can be uploaded to the internet for real time display using it's wireless internet.
  • It would house two retrieve boats, motors, chargers, generators, pit tables, and flags to rope off hot pits.
  • It would have a stage on the backside for drivers meetings and trophy presentation on the backside as well along with a tent wide enoug to cover two hot pit areas.
  • It would be most useful for large Championship events like National and World Regattas.

Of course this is the deluxe model but maybe someone may get and idea from this to create their own simplified version. My initial thought was to try to get a Red Bull, Monster, Boost Mobile, or some other consumer focused brand to sponsor but I have had no time to really pursue it at the moment. So once again. Here's an idea. If someone has resources to pursue it. Have at it... Even if it's a much smaller simplified version. I'd love to see someone make use of it and benefit from it.

Once again -and as usual- ;)

WAAAY ahead of the curve Roger ,

AWESOME , if only 2 were purchased between IMPBA and NAMBA for traveling to major events,

It would be AWESOME B)

Thanks Andy. Maybe someone else out there has a little bit of creativity, knowledge of a used beverage delivery truck, a few friends with a little bit of know-how like welding and carpentry and can put one together as a winter project something. It's not rocket science but it would be a bit of hard work.

Roger,

Anything can be possible if you have MONEY and TIME, it seems most people don't enough of both of these in today's economy. If you can get some support from anyone this is a start.

Are club is planing on building a rig like this but a tad smaller to say the least.

At last years Winter Nat's we had a trailer with the CD tower on top and used the bottom for every ting else.

We called it the traveling circus.

We just sold are 40 conex ( out of my yard finally) and are planing on getting a trailer to do this for all the clubs things.

We are planing on having a tracking system at this years race that is used in California with a push button in each pit mans hands.

This will keep track of all the boats on a computer as the race is run.

Any thing is possible with the right people involved.

To bad we are not an AMA SIG.. all this could be possible.

If you think that being a "Special Interest Group" within AMA will get you something like this keep dreaming. Back in the late 1990's IMPBA ( actually a friend of Jim Irwin ) was going to dig a pond on their property big enough to hold local, regional and National events on which would have benefited EVERYONE involved and after jerking us around for 2 or 3 years finally said no. What was this going to cost? Zip. Zilch. Nada. NOTHING. Jim Irwin's FRIEND WAS GOING TO DIG IT FOR NOTHING. And AMA eventually said NO. Ask some of the controline SIGs ( combat, stunt, FAI Team Racing, etc. ) or most likely just pick one and ask just how much support ( monetary or otherwise ) they receive from AMA. Don't get me wrong, they have done a lot for the hobby, but for the size that they are and the number of members they have, I think they could do a lot better for their members. And yes, I am a member. First joined up in 1963.

That's the spirit. Those with "Can-Do" attitudes actually "CAN" "DO" a lot.

Press on brother. Press on.

Nothing against Roger, here. This is a great idea he has come up with. I can only imagine what something like this could do for our sport. We always need people who "think outside of the box" and come up with ideas to make our hobby better. Just like an idea I had back in the 90's when AMA was moving to Muncie. Sorry Grim.............it is still tough to let this one go. I feel worse for Jim Irwin who really did all of the leg work on this. I know it is a new group of people running the show, now. Let's hope they listen better than the ones from years ago.

Hope all is well with you. Keep driving that yellow car!

yes, great idea and concept. Sort of similiar to concept's used in major league auto racing (IndyCar, etc.,...) for promotions, pre-race "live" introductions, etc.,...

Definitely could be very feasible on smaller-scale

Yah... the idea is not new. Years ago I designed a dual tractor trailer configuration that blew up an inflatable tent a little bigger than half the size of a football field and two stories high. It housed a staging room, movie theater, souvenir store and dinosaur replica exhibit adventure exhibiting 12 large complete dinosaur fossil replicas including the giganotasaurus which was the largest dinosaur ever discovered at that time. The two trailers housed the structure and third housed the dinosaur replicas which were disassembled. I know people think I waste my time thinking of things that they think is impossible it's just that I've done big things that required the seemingly impossible but had to make it possible.

and here I was....sitting all proud of myself and my club for our cotton trailer that we converted into our drivers stand. $1,300 later and we have a very functional and solid piece... Thanks Roger, thanks for making us feel so inadequate now. LOL

Hey... Yours actually exist. Mine is just a pretty photoshop picture. I take your any day of the week. Even site unseen. ; )

Hell , it's hard enough to get enough boats to make a class much less a mobile , universal CD stand !! Plus it would have to be adjustable for terrain inconsistencies . Great idea though !
