Hmmm... What's it worth??? Good question... Never really thought about what it's "WORTH"

So Let's See...

I just called my brother who is a paint and body man to see what the going bodyshop rate is.

He says it's $60 to $75 and hour. For arguments sake let's just round it down to a nice $50. (note that's $10 to $25 an hour I just chunked off)

Now let's make an itemized list of services rendered.

DISASSEMBLY

.5 hrs., $25

PREP

Sanding: (of old paint down to bare wood) 1 hr. $50

Primer Material Cost: Let's say $15

Time to Prime: .5 hrs., $25 (I didn't include set-up and clean up)

Sanding: (of Primer back down to the wood to remove wood grain) .5 hours $25

Primer Material Cost: (again to prime a second time) $15

Time to prime: .5 hrs., $25

Sanding: (not quite back down to wood to but enough so the grain pattern is fill with primer giving you a smooth surface with minimal weight of primer allowing for less paint (color) to be used since it doesn't have to fill surface imperfections like the grain pattern .5 hrs. $25

Paint Materials (Not much is needed using an airbrush)

House of Color Bright White $10

Shimrin Orange $5

Tru Blue Pearl $5

Airbrush Time: 1 Hour $50

Decal Cost $45.00

Decal Application: .5 hours $25

Clear Coat Material Cost $15

Clear Coat Time: .5 hours $25

Paint Hand Polish: 2 hours $100

Hardware Polish: 2 hours $100

So the Grand Total of what this paint job is worth is.... $585.00 (and this is a simple paint job being really modest with the going rate here in California, Home of Pimp My Ride, West Coast Customs, Monster Garage and West Coast Choppers)

But because I know boaters (most anyway) could not or would not pay this price, been charging between $250 for a boat this size to $500 for a scale since I started painting boats for people back when I was just 19.

lol! So there's the long of it.

Luckily I have a real graphic design job so I paint and make graphics for boats mostly because I enjoy it.

In comparison tp my corporate work... I designed a book cover that took me about 10 hours to do. The bill was $5k. It was a book that was going to be sold so useage rights came into play there.
