Got a little bored over the holidays and decided to build a new tub for my .21 boat. Just a couple changes from the original Nowicki boat. I wanted the engine bay bulkhead moved back to accommodate an oiler, changed the drive shaft angle, and left a little more of the top deck to hold the cowling better. It's definitely a chore, but a satisfying experience for sure. The tub is flat, square and lighter too. Here's a few pics for you to see the finished product.

Later, Ron

Can't get much cleaner of a build than that... Even the Glue-lines are clean.. Good job!!

Nice job Jr! :)

Did you laminate the sides? What material did you use? Make the sides with a router table and a template?

Sides are 3/16 balsa with 32nd marine ply on both sides. Yes on the router and template, works great! I also coated the balsa with dope so it wouldn't soak up the glue. I'll weigh it at work and report back.

Just like you're first shot at vac bagging CF cowls, pro job right off the bat! :)

Not exactly pro the first time Terry. This hull was my second attempt. I got the first one almost finished and it had a slight (very slight) rock to it. Not perfect enough for me so I started again. Used the first one for kindling yesterday. Burned well. Lol I also glued in dowl disks wherever holes are drilled through the hull. That took some careful drilling to not damage the balsa. I didn't want the glue to have to fill any voids and add weight. All went well but I think a bit of your O.C.D is rubbing off on me. Lol

Well that's what makes your "chit" run so good! :)

As Bill Gibson says: "get down with OCD, ya you know me".

Hi Ron, Nice looking hull, your stuff always runs great.

The hull as pictured weighs 242 grams, just a hair over 1/2 a lb. With my 40 gram cowling and keeping an eye on the detail I'm hoping to come in around 3.5lbs. That would shed 1/4 lb off the boat I ran last year. Building is actually kinda fun when it works out well. And Terry, a little O.C.D. goes a long way in this hobby. :)

Wow, that's gonna be a light 20 boat!

But I thought weight didn't matter?
