anyone have a link to the newest NAMBA rules? I am setting up a 3.5cc tunnel for racing, and would like to have a rule sheet to follow.

thanks

No mods to the engine, OK. Do they tech motors at say the nats or district races? Is that a full tear down or is there a pass no pass way of measuring of say the carby and exhaust. Specifically, turbo crank, skirted piston, exhaust "bridge" removal, crank case massaging? Anything legal? Can it be touched by a Dremel anywhere besides below the cav. plate? Thanks

Adam

Tim- you did a little "tuning" in there didn't you :p

Water,

No mods to the engine means, no mods to anything above the cavitation plate. I seem to recall that you can clean-up below that line but everything else is off limits. The intent is to race as the manufacturer intended the engine to be run.

1Bad, I am the Assitant Director here in District 3. Get me your number and I will call you. You can email it to [email protected]

Ron Byrd

The NAMBA national outboard chairman is Andy Smith. Andy I believe is in Florida.

He should be able to answer any OB questions you might have.

Email [email protected]

Past chairman, Jack Garcia

At the NAMBA Nationals the engines of boats that will get a trophy are completely torn down. In the past engines have been disqualified for having the red anodize sanded off the head, non K&B water fittings, and no K&B needle in the fuel line as well as performance improving changes. The only modifications allowed are shaping and polishing the lower unit below the cavitation plate. Screws, springs, throttle linkage, steering arm, and mounting plate can be changed, but all other parts must be stock and made by the origional engine manufacturer.

as of now my motor isnt even a KB lower... its a mod KB on a lawless foot- so running in the stock class isnt an option. really, hull and setup is my concern. B)

ps, im glad you all got a kick out of my "grey" areas comment ;) lol

Kewl, I started messing around again here right at New Years. Dragged my ole Dumas Scarab out and figured out what it is, and put a gas Homie motor in it. Bought a used and abused SprintCat hull at the WinterNats for my next project. Not sure what motor I'm going to do in that one yet. I've got the K&B from the Scarab that needs some repair, but I really like gas motors, so I may go with a G231 or a Sikk. B)

NAMBA is in the process of putting the NAMBA rule book on the NAMBA web site.

With the help of a few people, I have taken the entire rule book and put it a MS program that will be easy to make any updates. Currently, the NAMBA Secratary is checking all 80 plus PDF pages that are in a hidden link on the Internet to make sure that I have not made any errors.

It is going to take some time as we want to be correct and we are also in the process of doing the latest Propwash newsletter.

I can e-mail you just the OB pages as there have not been any changes since 1999.

Use [email protected]

Everyone out here has great advice but your real concern when you race your boat will be the Contest Director, OB Chairman, and the guys you beat.

If you are Jim then you should have the OB rules. Thanks,

yep, I got them. Truthfully, I am suprised at how few rules there are for hulls... so thus far, all my stuff is compliant.

thanks again.
