Our insurance carrier insisted on the change after people were found to be racing at sites where the things depicted below were happening. Just wait for the time a person gets hit by a model boat at a site like this. That will be the end of affordable insurance. Pray that 2 million coverage will be enough. Otherwise the lawyers will go after all the club members and national officers for the settlement.

Several years ago there was a fatality in Puerto Rico when a swimmer was hit by a gas mono. So far only a dog has been hit in a NAMBA event. NAMBA had to pay 1/2 the vet bill because racing wasn't stopped quickly enough. The process to get your club site is simple. You need to be able to control access to the water so you don't endanger other users.

You are not too far away from us. We practice racing with our boats in Oak Ridge about 40 minutes from Athens. Our lake is not insured because it is connected to the Clinch river but it is secluded enough. We police each other to prevent people from doing anything stupid. Most of our club members are IMPBA members. We race Gas, Nitro and Scale. We are the "Knoxville gang club", we race in Atlanta, Huntsville, Evansville, Charleston, etc.

Just to be accurate on the dog getting hit. We were racing in an on leash park only. The dog owner had the bright idea of throwing a stick for her dog to fetch on to the back straight from the opposite side of the pond just after the heat started. It was a typical windy day in Ellensberg with a pretty nasty chop on the water. Only the dogs head was above the water and no one saw it. I am grateful that NAMBA promptly settled the issue. That said, UNW has gotten a bad rap for this deal when the brain dead dog owner caused her own problems.

Also the one on the swimmer the idiot was told not to go out becuase the boats were still running but he had to go out right away no wonder he got hit

Thread cleaning was necessary to keep this post in line with the true spirit and intent of intlwaters.

Being in the ins. claims business for many years and a NAMBA member last year, it appeared to be just a matter of time before they changed the insurance coverages to only sanctioned ponds. In the pic above, neither of the policies would cover as they are "swimmers in the water." In Jacksonville, Fl. here we have formed the Nitro Duck R.C. Model Boaters club and run in a custom built IMPBA sanctioned pond in Folkston, Ga. All our members are IMPBA. Website for the pond is Nitro Duck Sportsman.

I am membership namba . I went to Hobart IN ( IMPBA) I was suprised that tables without gaurd prop plate at pit area so I keep my eye to watch out spinner prop.

Jim what you seem to not understand is the fact that Don is a volunteer admin. of this site. His role is to police it,everyone here are GUESTS sitting at a dinner table. Be on the best manners you can be or push back and take a breath of fresh air. This thread involves all model boaters as we are one small faction of the R/C community. I know as well as anyone the hard facts about keeping animals and people out of harms way during an event or practice. There is a little known gadget on all radio transmitters call a throttle,if a dangerous situation evolves we all need to stop the boats right away.....Just my 2 cents
