These are cool little boats!!!! This was only my third run with the hull. Right now I am at 0 angle on the strut. I think I need a little strut angle to calm the boat down.

Holy crap Mike that boat is right on the edge! Strut adjustment is mandatory!

I need to talk to you about the how toos of vid posting, nice work!

Ken Hildreth has like 8 of these boats and he let me play with one. I didn't check it with a gun but I'll bet it's nearly as fast as james sport 20 and that's with regular sport batteries. It's a pain in the butt to get up but when it does it's a rocket.

Mike,

Are those rollers coming off the front shore line.. man..

Try the Grimracer L38X55 with the trialing edge of the blade straightened up by adding cup to do so..

The handling goes Upppppppppppppppppp and the speed is real nice.

ROCK ON

Thanks for the Reply Mike,

I picked up both L38 props today, and I will work on the 55 this weekend.

Terry,

I might just leave it like that.... So, when I am passing you I won't need to take my hands off of the transmitter to wave to you. I will let the boat do the waving.... LOL

Mike don't worry about the Turbine Tank ! Knowing Terry he'll keep proping it up til it coughs a rotor.

ITs my boat you guys should be concerned about! Tested this old R/R S/S prop i found in my box today, Holy crap!

LOL

Man that thing looks ballistic! Is that stock form just with a new prop???? I can't wait to get back into RC Boats!!!!

Well the first club race is history, and we ran 3 heats this is how it all went down.

The night before I lower the strut to about 1 1/16 and I put 1 degree to 2 degree of angle at the prop end. This was intended to calm the boat down from the initial run you see in the video.

Heat 1 - I ran the boat with a M440 thinking a smaller prop with tongues removed (Hence the M prop) would calm the boat down. Speed was really good (on of the faster boats) but I still needed to “throttle” the boat down the straits to keep it from blowing off. I ended up getting a first place.

Heat 2 – I changed props to Mike’s recommendation L38X55. The boat was a little more stable, but I lost more speed than I wanted to the others I was racing against. I also found myself working the throttle still, but not as much with the M440. I did get a first place in this heat too, but it was because the guy in front of me jumped the start and he didn’t know it until the end.

Heat 3 – I changed to an X440/3. It seemed that I had one of the faster boats; it was less flighty than the M440 but a little more flighty than the L38X55. I ran mostly ¾ throttle most of the race, but I had plenty of speed in the tank if I needed to pass anyone or throttle my way out of trouble. I finished this race with a 2nd.

I am thinking that I my try and drop my strut a little lower. I have also had the notion; maybe the boat can handle it and I need to become more comfortable driving the loose boat. Only driving in race conditions will give me that confidence of knowing what the limit is.

Mike,

good job!

I know that my racing buddy back home can not drive my boats. Every time they try.. over they go.. Mabey i bring that to my designes here at work.. I can pin the boats through the design but what fun is that.. Group 7 car on 7volts.... BORRING! hahahah

Anyhow.. make sure you adjust the fin when you are making strut changes.

I have tought myself to drive a loose boat over the years because.. loose is FAST and fun.. on the edge.. but FASST!

ROCK ON MR Mike.. say hi to popps for me.. let him know that I have not forgot about that "toy boat" I owe him from Toledo!

Thanks Mike,

Trust me when I tell you; I was having fun!!! :D

I want others who plan to race this boat to have good feedback in heat racing conditions! I have heard all kinds of claims on top speed, but if you can't drive it in rough race water what's the point. Just my $.02

I am going to continue working with a few different props for now and see if I can get the speed and the handling to a nice medium.

Mike, I didn't lap you did I? Somebody got lapped in that last heat. My motor came in 96 degrees. Not sure if I'll prop up.

Mike,

The boat was designed for heat racing.. Truth is i could care less how fast it goes in a straight line but that’s just me..

I can tell you this however.. As great a job as Brian did setting the boat up for SAW during its introduction in OCT that’s the LAST TIME i will do that. People have been burning **** out time and time again thinking they can get there boats to do that.....hahah

The prototype boat was not as loose as the production boats.. Not 100% sure why.. Nothing in the hull has changed. But as it goes the turn fin is hyper critical on the boat as it SHOULD BE regarding a full race hull.

I started in third behind you and Ken. Ken spun out on bouy 5 and I moved to 2nd. You finished infront of me.

I am not worried about getting my UL-1 up to speed with "The Led Sled." That thing is WAY fast, and really hooked up. I can't think of anyone that can keep up with your whip.
