ML Boatworks- Vision 20 and 40 Tunnels are back! Molds just arrived.

Well, I am very happy to announce a new addition to the fiberglass hull lineup at ML Boatworks. I acquired the Vision 20 and 40 outboard tunnel molds from Shawn and they arrived today! Been cleaning them up, only to find a mint surface under the paste wax layers. I am working on prepping them for semi permanent mold release now, and should be ready to start tackling the waiting list soon! I am really happy to finally be offering race tunnels again, and the fact they have won numerous races at the international level is even better! More soon!

Brad, Glass work comes in waves honestly. I don't get stacked up all the time. I currently do have 8 Visions on order, so there will be a burst at the beginning, but then it levels off. Wood kits are still my top selling items, at least until I get the gas mono design finished, and ready for a plug/ mold, and some of my sport hydros done for molds. There has been a ton of interest in those hulls being glass over the years. Just need to do it!

Well, I cannot say I am not very very happy with the first 20 and 40 bottom layups. Both done with carbon reinforcement. Stain Harness H4 carbon to be exact. This has made for a very very strong, and light bottom. I am also now using Duratec Hi Gloss gel coat additive, and I cannot say enough about the results. A more durable gel coat, that will polish up like a mirror. The pics below are before any kind of Polishing! I cannot wait to start on the top decks for these two hulls. Here are some pics:

I am really happy with the results thus far. I laid up a complete carbon fiber 20 hull, that I am classifying as a "Mod 20" hull per Shawn's weight recommendations. I also did a white 40 carbon fiber cowling made over the weekend. Next up is a 40 size yellow deck and cowling with carbon fiber. The materials for starting that color arrive today. Lots going on, but I am really pleased with how well these molds were made, and how well the boats lay up in them. So easy to work with. Also, the sponsons laid out very squarely on the Granite table, so I know this thing is going to be very very square, which is very important in the grand scheme of things!

I'm back from Vacation, and back in the shop. I trimmed out the yellow Vision 40, and will use this 40 and 20 to score the molds the way I want to trim them each and every time, so all future hulls will look the same. The yellow hull is actually now getting a yellow bottom per the customers request, so the white one is just for an example. I have to say, these boats are really looking good. I am getting back in the shop tonight to layup more hulls, and start making tongues for the cowls and adding metal in the transom. More soon!

Its gel coat and poly. Layers depend on the area and the hull. I am trying to make a good balance between strength and weight with these. I don't want to risk strength to reduce weight when possible. Now if someone just needs an ultra light layup, and cares not for long term durability, I will consider it. Just a big investment to not get a quality piece ya know.

The yellow 40 tunnel is finally wrapped up. I have been out of town, and busy with other orders when I got back. I am finally getting all the ins and outs figured out with the builds now. Aluminum plate is added to the inside of the transom too, as well as foam is being bonded inside with 5200 adhesive, hopefully reducing risk of sinking if something where to happen.

This is the only one I will probably do with a colored bottom. The option ads weight as I have to spray the color, and a backing gel coat color (white or black depending on the hulls color), so you end up with twice the material for the sake of a colored bottom. To me, not worth it, but it was a request. So from here on out, colored tops are available, but white only on the bottom, or black if need be. Here are some pics. The white 20 will be wrapped up tonight more than likely as well.

Prices include a radio box kit (nitro or fe) and white gel coat.

Additional colors are $30 for a top deck and cowl.
