So last November, I took an FE version of this hull, and set a SAW Q O/B tunnel record at 78.43mph, with a fast past of 79.5mph. That hull was called the QX400 40" FE tunnel. That boat was rock solid, and obviously fast, but the sponson design didn't work well in turns...so over the last few months, I went back, and changed things up on the bottom, added some new features like a spray rail and built in stumble pads instead of the balsa pads of the past. I hope to add that feature to all of the tunnels soon as it will create a more consistent approach to the pad design as the balsa pads were always hand cut. I am also going to change to a built in duel purpose radio box before this hull is released, and do some new stuff to the sponson attachment that will make building the hull square even easier.
This NX400 tunnel is for now, a prototype, but will be tested over the next couple of months, and should find its way to Charleston either as a mod .45, or with a .67 in the open class. My driver is waiting to see if anything opens up in mod .45 and if it does, will go that route. If this boat works out well in oval trim, then I will proceed with building the already designed NX365, 36.5" version of this for stock .45. The radio box is not shown in the pics. The cowling is white gel coat, fiberglass layup. I will post that soon. Enjoy, Mike
